I'm a landscaper in the summer... that really is $2 edging  I'll die before it touches my car.

Come on bro you got to be kidding me. That car is rigged to the extreme you have zip ties holding your intercooler and you are putting garden equipment as a front lip.

Why don't you guys wait until he's done with it before bashing the guy. And for all you 2g owners, it's pretty easy to bash when you have tons of visual options for your car.

At the end of the day we are a group that likes modification, if you don't like it then don't do it to your car.

He gets a :thumb: in my book for trying something different.

How the hell am I supposed to tell if I like it with your front bumper all torn off. I have no idea without seeing a picture with the body parts put back on.

I work at home depot ok..and if someone came and asked me to get them these supplies and I would ask is this for your garden? and then they would say no im putting it on my car.. Then I would be like sir that is straight Ghetto..I mean seriously going to home depot buyin 10 bucks in stuff and then boltin it to your car..I mean really how can you not call it ghetto? Even if it looks good when its done its still ghetto..

"Hey man where did you get that black thing under your bumper?"

"I went to home Depot and got this plastic and bolted it to my bumper for 10 bucks!"

"damn that is ghetto man"

See what I mean OMG

Im not tryin to be a dick to you but just tellin you what I think about it..

LOL thats too real. It looks jacked man.. Save up and buy a unthrashed front bumper cover

yeah, no offense but that looks kinda ghetto.

Seriously, even ghetto has higher standards.

Just tell us your not using a garden hose for an exhaust system.

This has been on the VFAQ for the longest time... I actually thought about doing it to my car. There's a lot of stuff you can make your own out of instead of landscaping trim man. In fact, I was planning on starting my own this weekend if I have enough time. But still finish it and post some good pics...I'm curious how it will look after it's all said and done.

Damn this thread reminds me of like third grade when someone tries to do something different with their hair and becomes the laughing stock of the whole school for like 10 years. Grow up guys.
Jesse I will have to see it done and from further back but it seems alright. Does it hold pretty straight? Will it hold up to 100 MPH winds without deflecting?

Eclipsei95cl I can't tell if your just a dumbass or if you grew up with a silver spoon sticking out of both ends. Some of us can't afford to browse through the internet and pick out the most expensive part we can find, others just don't want to.
You say even if it looks good it's still ghetto, well maybe you mean good ghetto I don't know but if it works and looks good who cares what it is or how much it cost's.

I have thought about using the industrial belts they use on the big conveyer belts. It's stiff, strong but flexible and you could find it used for free.

And Jesse get those zip ties off that intercooler, I think you will find baling wire much more socially acceptable.

I guess the $10 boost controller from home depot is ghetto, as well as the $10 3" intake, the $300 3" turbo-back exhaust, and the $310 front mount?

Some people like to make things on their own, apparently some of you guys don't. There's nothing wrong with that, but don't put down somebody because he is trying to make a new part. It may not look right to you, but why do you care, you're not driving it. As I said before, it's not even done yet, so of course it doesn't look right.

Why should you guys care if he's using lawn products or not, if it works then leave him alone.

**back on topic**
If you can find a way to put some bracing behind it, that should help the stiffness and keep it on at high speeds. The only thing I would worry about would be how it flows visually with the sideskirts and the rear of the car. The only benefit I see for it would be if you were into road racing, but keep working on it and let us know what it looks like when you're done.

My friend did the exact same thing with his bumper when he clipped a curb last winter :p . In all honesty it didn't look half bad, when he told me he got the parts from home depot I wanted to slap him but it actually looked pretty good in person. (flame suit on)

Anyways, get a nice front shot of the lip with the FMIC and all in there and maybe some of these people will stop hating so much..

maybe it would look good if it were installed straight and level........

I really don't give a shit what people think about the looks of my car. The civic I owned before my DSM looked like a shitbox, black steelies, stock height, missing hangers on exhaust, etc... People would stare and laugh and then I would bust their ass up and down the road. Who cares what it looks like as long as it hauls ass. Don't hate on people for trying new things. Jesus, you get flamed for bodykits so you decide to try something new and you get reemed for that. :thumbdown

To Answer some peoples questions...

My car is NOT running.

I dont have piping for the FMIC and I don't know 100% where its going to sit yet so i'm not going to bolt it in till the piping is done, and the FMIC sits where it is suppose to.

I just got the fmic like 2 weeks ago and we wanted to see what it would look like so we just put a few zip's on to see. again like I said before my buddies pulled the zip's tight and didn't realize it moved up 4 inches...

Anyways

I plan on putting metal bracing along that back of the lip where the screws are and then having it come downand another strip along the bottem and mold it out a little more so it looks right... I'm also going to paint the bolts so you wont be able to tell they are there, and also going to put some more bolts to hold it steady at higher speeds and make sure it doesn't rip off.

Personally, I love the idea - and how it looks. :thumb:

Don't worry about the haters, it's what you think of your ride that counts. Otherwise, it's too much like a high-school beauty pagent.

Here in the snowy and potholed parts of Ohio, your front air dam or any other such component is a "consumable." This mod makes it a perfectly acceptable cosmetic/functional add-on without the worries of babying a high-dollar piece.

And hey, here's the original VFAQ item, on a 2G, by James P. LaMere (c.'04):

i dunno man.. Not to flame your or anything but it looks kinda wierd to me...maybe it's the bolts.. maybe it'll look better after you paint em *Shrugs*

I was just about to add that link :thumb:

His car is on the machv website homepage as well right now

I am willing to bet that, at one time or another, each and every one of the people in this thread calling all of the honest people haters have made fun of that CRX with the wooden body kit. A buddy of mine did this a few weeks ago for a joke on his beater 4 door civic, he called it the "weeds west" front lip. It was hysterical, and now somebody is doing it with the serious intention of making their car look good, a DSM nonetheless. I think it is absolutely rediculous.

And before you hypocrites go calling me a hater, why don't you go read the original post. He says "you like?" For the slower members, that is indicating that he wants peoples' opinions on how garden edging looks bolted to his front bumper. Some will like it, some won't.

With that said, shut your pie holes, let people post their opinions, and have a nice day :thumb:

no bro, just no,no,no. :thumbdown .fix your car with your free time don't turn it into a weedwacker.this is not a hot item from home depot performance, wich i see nothing wrong with, but no it can't be.

Cutting those two supports was a big mistake. The bumper will sure sag now when youre driving over 50. Ive never been a fan of the cut bumper but hey to each their own.

As long as you are happy with it.

I think it'll look good onces it's down, it's not shaping up too bad at all :thumb:

I didn't cut anything..... I got the car like this X 100000000 in the dirty ugly freak factor... bumper itself weighs like 1 or 2 pounds and it doesn't drive yet and nothing is even bolted down 100% yet on the car like I said before...

LOL I guess giving opinions means something besides what I thought it was mean't

hmmm

My whole front of my car is ghetto I think... but Don't worry when you can only see my tails you wont have to see the ghetto front because you put a 500$ bodykit on my car, and I chose to spend that 490 of that same $ wisely on performance parts....

Boo Yaaa, 12's with the 14b :p
:thumb:

(in regards to jessestalon stated above)Thank Christ someone else sees the light :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Like I said before, who cares how it looks, as long as it hauls ass. If innovative people were afraid to try their ideas we'd all still be sitting around clanking rocks together and painting on cave walls. I didn't mean to be a DICK earlier, it just pisses me off when people make fun of someone for trying something new. I may do the same thing with my gsx b/c I'd rather hear a piece of replaceable black plastic scraping the ground, rather than a 850$ FMIC. :dsm: :thumb:

anyways glad ppl are haters... As I said its 30min of work and when im done it will look much better after the bolts are painted and its all done...

On a Side note it's a Saab Viggen FMIC... (stock Viggen is 230whp 260tq)Good for 12's no problem and im not going to do less than 12's so don't need bigger fmic than that...

If you want to view it as hating, then be my guest.. If you will READ what I put, "No Offense, but it LOOKS kind of ghetto", you'll see that i'm not "hating", rather expressing what I THINK it looks like.

What do you want? you expect everyone to just applaud you for beind different and like it? heck no, this is DSMtuners.com...

On a serious note, I don't see why you are getting all butthurt calling people haters. All they're doing is saying they don't like it. I don't like it. You ask, and you shall recieve. Does that make me a hater? I could care less if your car is ghetto, but that lip Looks ghetto. Hell, I am using sections of a stock exhaust off of a Tahoe for some of my intercooler pipng, but cleaned up and polished it looks like aftermarket piping. Being ghetto and saving money isn't bad (10$ MBC, other stuff), but what you're doing makes your car LOOK ghetto.

Good luck with that viggen fmic. I had one that blew off the plastic endtank at 18 psi. I'd suggest strapping that bad boy if you want to get 12's on it.

P.S. (i'm just wondering) how old are you?

This isn't new, you are.
Anyone who's using garden edging as an aerodynamic appliance under estimates the load such a "chin spoiler" sees.
It has to be rigid to work. This will not function.

This garden edging thing has got to be ten years old anyhow......
