Pissing coolant, but not the head gasket

Today I noticed that my car was dripping coolant, so I look underneath and I see its the overflow can. I look inside and the can is completely full, with more coming in and I could hear a boiling sound coming from the radiator cap. The car wouldn't over heat, but the temp guage was at about 2/3, so that not normal. I was about to change my oil, so I decided to go ahead and do it today in order to check the oil for coolant. As soon as I jack the car up, I heard the coolant slurp all back into the coolant pipes. Also, there is no coolant in my oil. I know that the car is supposed to take all the coolant back in when it is cooled down, but what could have caused it to overheat so much that it was pissing like that. I wasn't driving it hard, either, so I'm not sure what caused the over heat in the first place.

I concur: it sounds like the thermostat is stuck closed.

Yep, the thermostat was bad. I put it in boiling water for 10 minutes and it didn't open. Thanks guys.
