Would it be cheaper to piece together your own turbo kit, or just buy a Hahn or Star Kit?

And if it is cheaper to piece one together, what all would I need?

Yes, piece your own turbo kit and you will save a good handful of money. GSGoinFast has a tutorial in the tech section. Go read it.

Thanks. Always forget we have the tech guide.

I would definately peice together my own kit. For one you can choose exactly what setup you want, and on top of that save money on it. Now if your the kind of person who needs tech support, best to go with the hahn kit. I think building your own would help your skills along with giving you the advantage of picking every last part to your desire on the kit. I am definately using GsGoinFast's article for refrence.

It is definitely cheaper making a custom kit. But there is always the option of buying a slightly used hahn or star kit for around the same price.

Chris's guide will def help you out. Look for it - you have any idea what size turbo you plan to run?

Its not always cheaper to go with a custom setup, when I see a lot of people doing a custom 420a Turbo setup and its way cheaper is because they are using less expensive parts than used in a HRC or Star Kit, I mean obviously the kit is cheaper when using a 14b, t25, or some off brand t3 turbos. The Star kit already comes with pretty nice stuff consisitng of mainly turbonetics products which is one of the best turbo manufactures out there. When half of the custom kit consists of used or off brand parts no doubt it will be cheaper. I mean i know you can piece together a turbo kit with pretty damn good parts for a good price but like I said most people are using oem or used aftermarket parts. I have seen a couple of decent turbo manifolds for the 420a in peoples customs setups but most of them look like a junior in highschool welded it in auto class imo. You also pay more because its all theer for you, no hunting for each individual thing and a lot less time consuming, its a great idea if on a budget and you have time on your hands just be careful when choosing parts and dont try and take shortcuts.

your forgetting a couple things. 1, most people into serious performance will get rid of many parts that come wiht there star or Hahn kits... more so with the hahn kits. 2, if you just shop around a bit, you could buy all of the same parts as the kits for cheaper then what the kit costs. just takes some research and some time searching.

Thanks burnett :)

Well that is exactly what i said in my previous post.... "You also pay more because its all theer for you, no hunting for each individual thing and a lot less time consuming".....Buying the HRC or Star kit is pretty damn expensive from a Retail store, you need to find someone selling their kit that never put it on and that is selling it for cheaper, like me =)
