Here is my log running @ 89 octane 1st through 3rd gears...i was on a windy road so i couldn't do redline.

as u can from the tps i had troubles with keeping the throttle wide open cause of the roads...bumpy and in turns. anything else i need to be monitoring? Also the reason i did from 1st gear was when i started out monitoring i saw my knock jump up to 43 in first gear but it was kinda just like a spike so that's why i did from first wanted to see if i could catch it agian. the reasoning behind it is i cant offord putting 93 in my car but i need to drive the car cuase i live off campus from school. i put 89 in there and logged it cause i wanted to make sure i wasn't getting knock and see how the car is running i only put 2 gallons in incase i was getting a huge amount of knock, the ? is weather or not the log looks good?
 
If you going to burn regular, you need to put your BCS back in and live with the ECU pulling timing and boost to protect your engine. If you can't afford the fuel costs I doubt you can afford the rebuild costs.

Your log didn't look too bad but it's clear it's not a WOT pull. You can see the timing rise from backing off the throttle and we have no idea what the ECU has alread done to retard the timing from prior driving.

If you do this again, it needs to be a WOT pull in second or third gear and you don't need to log EGTR or you have it mislabled (it looks more like IDC which would be good to see). It helps to tell us what software and version you logged with so we know if the results are off.

this is only temperarly, i will go back to higher octance when i'm out of school and working agian...i didn't log when i went WOT but the timing stayed around 20 degrees all the time and i didn't see any knock. i get spuratic knock when i'm just crusing or low rpms.
 
u think if i do this i should also turn down my boost back to stock settings?

Like I told you before, put the BCS back in and let the ECU protect the engine like it did stock. Out of the box the car would run safely on regular but it doesn't run as well as it does on 93.

Steve's given great advice. Also dont gun it around town or even race @ WOT. If you do, Im sure a post will come up about "Help, just blown motor".

My car HATES anything below 92 tesoro/76 gas. Itll start crappy and run crappy. I can only imagine how bad itll run with lower octane.

And im sure the ECU already adjusted to your octane value being so low. When you fill up with good gas, Id say go thru 2 tanks of it then reset your ECU. Itll go back to thinking its been using higher octane and not run as bad as it did on 89.
 
the problem with the bcs is it's at home...and i'm an hour away...for now i'll drive normally and not run over 5psi i'll be monitoring the car with my logger. i get some knock here and htere no more than 5 counts that i've seen. I'll also turn down the boost back to stock levels. what's the differance from using the bcs to control boost to 9psi and a mbc?

with a BCS the ECU can close it and cause you to run as if the wastegate was connected directly to the turbo outlet if it needs to.

In fact, just connect the vacuum line straight to the wastegate nipple from the turbo outlet pipe (stock "j" pipe) and that'll keep boost under 9 psi. Take out your MBC and cap off that side of the tee.

It wont go over 9psi now. Its like the BCS is ALWAYS closed =D.

Its not that much of a difference b/w high and mid octane anyway. Ask yourself whats more expensive, motor rebuild or 91/92/93/94 octane? Id just play it safe and put in some high octane and call it a day.

i'll put the bcs back in next weekend when i go home...now will i be able to see if things are going wrong with the car on the logger by monitoring the knock and timing advance? i havn't gone WOT since and i dont plan too. the roads are crap anyways to be doing high speeds
 
Stock boost, haha. The car is meant for PREMIUM. If you do not run premium, drive like grandma and don't boost.
