Perfect 19" + Offset?

No, these 19's are just going to be my everyday driving rims. I dont plan on much power, only about 300 to the wheels. The vehicle will be tuned for maximum power/fuel mileage. As for racing, I'll probably end up with some 17's maximum.

The only reason I said what I said, is a response to wret.

I will go with the 8" wide wheel, and a 40mm offset. Thats how I want them to look.

Just one other thing to consider before you pick your tire size, is the overall diameter of the tire. My tires are a 225/40/18 so have a diameter of right around 25.1". With this diameter & the 8" +40mm rim I have about 10mm clearance between the inner wheel & the knuckle. If you take a look at the knuckle you will see that it starts to head towards the outside of the car as it goes up. So if your tires diameter ends up being higher then this, the gap between the knucle & tire will get smaller. The larger the diamter of the tire, the smaller this gap. With a 235/40/19 your looking of a diameter around 26.4". This additional diameter is going to close that approx 10mm gap I have in even more. I think you will probably be able to squeeze them in, but its going to be tight.

and would result in the top corner of the tire to rub the knuckle... Hmm... I'd have to probably do some grinding to get some extra room, but would have to make it rub, to see where its rubbing. I don't know...

Hey just wanted to add since I had post about this before. I went out and got a cheap used set of 245/40/19 tires to try to fit on my 2g. Well they don't exactly fit. they fill in the wheel well nicly but just touch the the nuckle arm in the back and do not clear the fenderwell. Although maybe with a camber adjustment??? Flaring the fenders?? I got to much crap going on right now and just want to drive the car. Maybe they will clear but a spacer will be needed. Anyhow I just thought I'd post a couple of pics. Anybody want to buy a set of tires??:p J/K

I know a guy with 20" wheels and same size tires, and he has no rubbing issues.

Merkles, no pictures? I like what I'm seeing by using 19" wheels, Looks exotic, like I want.

Sorry I haven't gotten time to get on much lately, but here are the only 2 pictures i could find.

The pictures are alittle messed up because they had to get resized for the website.

I'd like to go with 20" wheels... 20 x 8.5 seem to be the most popular sizes available in "tuner" style wheels... is it possible? and what tire sizes? I've read all i can on the issue.. this seems to be the most helpful thread..

Well people with a Porsche doesn't drive them much here in Albuquerque. There are tons of potholes. I've damaged my 17's before on 45 series tires! I damaged my 16's on 45 series tires before... but the city paid for it... Its almost as if you go offroad. I mean I could devote a few months to photograph all of the construction... There's a dip and a rise on a main street right now from construction that is about 2-3" tall! They wont leave the roads alone, they MUST tear them apart.[/QUOTE?]

Haha! Not a member of Rennlist? I'm a member of Porsche owner's club and we have scheduled meets in New Mexico every year. There are tons of Porsche owners in your area, more than here on the east.

Its tire height that is the problem well maybe offset. I have 19"'s ans just stuffed 245/35's on a 7 1/2" rim with no issues or side bulging but I did have to roll my fenders slightly to clear. I tried a 40 series tire and it rubbed the knuckle arm. If you keep the tire height close to stock which is 25.5, a 245/30/20 will be 25.8" tall and will clear.

I know there are alot of porsche owners, but older ones, there are a few newer ones with smaller tires... but you RARELY see them. During the summer you'll see the bad ass come out just to show off to the lil tuner guys... But its rare. They are just like the MR2 or RX7 people, there are alot, but they all keep thier cars garraged, use them for weekend cruisers... thats it.
