Hey guys I'm having a hard time trying to get my passenger side axle of my 1g I can't find a good angle to get my screw driver or anything else to pop it out any information or ideas? Thank you in advance

I've found it easiest with 2 pry bars, one on each side. Tends to keep from pushing the axle cups sideways too much.

This. I usually put one pry bar on the bottom of the axle, stand up, put your foot on the handle of the pry bar to put pressure on the bottom, then pry on the top of the axle with the other pry bar. Should pop right out

Try from the top and turn the axle slowly till it pops. There's one sweet spot in the cir-clip that will allow it to pop the easiest.

+1

Look for the sweet spot by rotating the axle a bit, pry, rotate, pry, etc...until you are successful - wouldn't necessarily have to be from the top - rotating is key from my experience.

Paul, I'd say most are as you say. Some axles c-clips aren't very tight which lets them hang out more and block the path out. That could be the case with the OPs axle and if it's rotated right, it will (hopefully) be easier.

All of these are good advice and can work. With the new axle came out quite easily, pretty much effortless. But taking my old one out, passenger side, was very hard and guessing it was because of the c-clip? When mine finally came out the clip was grooved to the splines of the tranny, if that makes sense to anyone. Could have been that I found the sweet spot from rotating, I don't know. This is what I did. Was a crowbar that worked for me, was stiff and no flex, couldn't get anything else to work, placed it between the cup and transmission in a way so it wouldn't just fall out and I stomped the hell out of it till it finally popped. It took some real good stomping on it too. Even after it popped came out not so easily.goodluck.

Mine jammed the clip on the inside of the transmission. I had to take the axle apart at the inner boot, drop the tranny (which thankfully I was doing anyway) with that part of the axle still in and I finally got it out my picking at the clip in pieces from the other side. I damaged the outside of the transmission case where I tried to pop it out by driving a chisel (and pry bar and screwdriver) between the transmission and the axle (because, as Paul said he does and I had done in the past, the twisting screwdriver technique didn't work). Trying to pop the axle out from the opposite side is an alternate idea, too, if sufficient access can be gained.
