aight first whats orange peel? and why wetsand it after he's done? i wet sanded before to have a surface so the paint could apply

the reason that you wetsand after you paint is to knock down any orange peel effect that you get when spraying the paint. When you atomize paint and apply it to a panel it does not flow out to a perfect surface as water would, rather it has suttle highs and lows that resemble the look of an orange peel. To make the surface perfect and achieve a mirror like reflection you need to knock down those highs so that the surface of the paint is perfectly level. If you notice in the last pic that was posted you will see that his reflection is very fuzzy, this is due to the uneven surface. The simple way to cure this is to use very fine grit sand paper that is soaked in water to allow for an easier sand. You can start off with a aggressive 1000 grit and then taper off to at least 1200, the finer you go the less buffing will be necessary. When you sand you use either a hard or soft bock, depending on the surface, the hard block is used on very straight panels while the soft block can be used on curvy panels. The blocks act as a bridge so that you will only sand the high spots. Once you do your sanding you need to buff the panel with a compound.

i have to say, miteclgst definately knows what he is talking about. :thumb:

Im in the process of doing a whole makeover to my eclipse. I already ripped out the whole interior plastics, and im doing those. Replacing the headliner, waiting for the front bumper to come in. And my point is , is that this thread is very helpful to me. I really don't know half of what im doing but im doing it anyways, never have and never will pay anybody to do work I can somewhat do myself.

Im waiting for the 97 oem bumper to come in, im putting the oem cf hood, a cf lip, low blitz side skirts, and stock oem rear bumper. How does this sound? I think it will look awesome, I have a huge wing too, I read alot of posts where alot of you frown upon these, but I Like it and alot of others do too.

Question to you all is , when i fill the body lines, is there anything to watch out for or make sure doesnt happen? Also, about paint, my car is silver, very dismal though, with no clear. Whoever had this car before me was a depressed human :\ Does anyone have any suggestions as to a very nice looking silver I can go for?

In my personal experience, the orange peel I got when I first got my car started to go away after buffing it with wax.

Orange Peel is the effect where the paint looks like the outside of a orange...the texture looks bumpy.

hey man I think it looks pretty good. Its alot better than my paint. I dunno how people are seeing orange peel in the pics you posted but thats nothing a little wet sand and buff cant fix....looks good though :thumb:

aight that sounds good cause i just painted mine subaru blue and its been in the barn sleepin for a while so i should wetsand it then i can wash and wax it?
