I dont have money for a paint job so i decided to paint my car myself with Dupricolor enamel or what ever its called. I prepped and everything but i justg cant get the paint to even out right, my hood is the main part. I have about 6 light coats and it still has marks and stuff. What do i need to do to get it even. I did my wheels and my side skirts came out perfect, am i using the wrong paint? any info would be great.

I once had a problem like this when i was painting my car... Actually it was the hood. I dont know what it is about the hood that makes the paint come out like that. Anyways i talked to this really good guy i know..that does like custom paint and stuff... and He told me that i need to do a 50/50 overlap when painting. It gives the paint a even spread. He also told me to stay about a foot away when spraying..

LOL the funny thing it is the hood, thes driver side went on good.

ok you guys listen up! I do this shit everyday at my shop so hear me well! haha. When you go to paint ANY part what you need to do is sand it down, primer, paint and clear coat. When you use primer OR paint OR clear coat in a rattle can, you ALWAYS spray two very light coats that BARELY even cover the piece your painting. THEN after the two coats have dried properly, go back and spray two more WET coats. Usually for my light coats I'll hold the can a full 12" away from the piece and then for a WET coat, I'll hold it about 4-6" away. This way will get rid of your runs, pits, or lines in your paint. THEN when you've painted your piece, sand off the glossyness of the last coat with 2000 grit and then clear coat it the same way you painted. 2 light coats, then 2 wet coats guys. Thats the trick, and I promise everything you paint will come out perfect everytime. It works for me!

i primered it and did light coats, started to hurt my finger so i bought the little spray thing so i can spray it on intead of pressing the button. Might just redo it.

I've never had much luck with the spray adapters, maybe yours will work out better. The problem with the hood is that it is a very large panel and has complex curves in it so it is really hard to keep the same angle on the can. Especially if you are spraying in the hood closed position. Cans are bad about not spraying evenly anyway and on a large panel if you have to change cans the color may not match perfectly. You may have better results if you remove the hood and set it up vertically and start with a full can so you can do each coat with out changing cans.
