i need help painting

Ok i was wondering cause i am pretty strapped for cash but i have some pain left over from some shit i used to paint i have a can of dupli color import auto spray it says its used for car paint and trim accessories. but the interior peices i plan on painting are the plastics. I have a can of dupli color white primer since hte plastics are kind of a dark gray shade . I dont have plastic paint so i wonder would sanding the plastics till they are smooth and primering and then painting would it work ? or would the pain just run and not stick well ?

Look into krylon fusion or duplicolor interior/vinyl paint. There are mixed opinions on both the krylon is usually glossy. I went with a semi gloss black duplicolor and had good results. Just make sure you use prepsol and scuff the plastic well. Use light coats and never put a heavy finish coat. It should turn out well

so just sanding down the plastics real nice cleaning them then using some rubbing alcol then primer wont work ?

The primer is overkill. I was known as the Krylon King back in the day. and no problem I try to help out people. I mean if you do it wrong the first time itll make the project longer and possibly the outcome would be bad mojo. Use scotchbrite and solvent to remove any grease. The best thing to remember is very light coats.

cool cool but what if i cant get my hands on any plastic paint cause im broke right now and this is just left over paint ive had for awhile

A wiseman once said "anything worth doing is worth doing right" Yes you have some left over paint but will it turn out? Probably not. The adhesion properties are not the same. You have a decent looking car (not big on the double decker wing) but why would you want to go using bad paint on the interior?? Be patient and wait until you have $15.00 to get the correct product. Everybodys in a huge hurry for that instant gratification of having their dream car. It takes time. Do it right

PS interior panels can be hard to find and spendy so keep that in mind before you go ruining what you've got. Ive been wanting to paint my dash two tone black top. I ran across a dodge avenger and found full interior dash door panels etc for like $100.00 at pull a part. Patience young grasshopper. I would have spend half of that in rattle can and materials before it was all said and done.

lucky for me i have two tries i have another aclipse that i planned on using at my DD so im not worried about how it looks so if i dont like the color i got spares

ill see if i can find the right color given i dont have a paint gun i need it in a shake can and i kinda wana do metalic blue

what do you think ? stock gray with metalic blue plastics ?

One last thought. Krylon or regular spray paint has glossy finish. It looks like shit for interior pieces with glossy paints you get flaking and take longer to dry. The flat interior paint doesnt come off is less likely to flake off and has a factory appearance not to mention you can armorall it.

EDIT** Rice... Its really all in your taste. My car is going to be a clean GSX new paint and factory looking modifications. Under the hood is clean and its going to be a DD and a weekend warrior at the track. No bright colored interior or underglow

ill look into that hopefully they have a shade of blue i like originally i was gonna go red however my interior is grey instead of black if it was black i'd go red and i dont really have the space or time to tear out my whole dash to paint it just he plastics so im kind of stuck with blue ... i really wanna go red cause my engine bay is red and as is my valve cover

Dont take offense but your obviously of a younger generation. Im not big on colorful interior. The key IMO is modifying it but still allowing it to have a factory taste. Also that blue is going to get dirty and fingerprint scratch etc.


It doesnt look bad if thats what you wanted but like I said not my cup of tea.

figured at much yeah i originally had a silver eclipse with all black interior and i had my buddy paint some plastics silver for me and i liked it and I wanted my cars interior black and red to match my car and my engine bay . But I'm going to change some more things up. I like to have an interior that stands out I dont take offense to it I just waned your opinion on the job not the color appreciate it I plan on clear coating it lightly to help prevent scratchs n stuff.
