paint questions

Ok i just rearended someone going about 3 mph. there was no damage to the bumper other than the paint chipped and cracked a little. heres my delima. if i sand the bumper down tonight and spray it tomorow (thursday), base and clear would it be dry enough to put back on and go on a highway trip friday night? im going up to osu which is about 1.5 hours on the highway and i dont want the paint to be too soft and get bugs and whatnot stuck in it. do you think a day is enough time for the paint to dry? thanks.

normally the rule of thumb is 48 hours for it to harder all the way under normal temeratures......if you put a heat lamp on it ....it wil probabaly be okay for a day....

If it has a heat lamp on it, or you can stick it in the sun on a warm/hot day, it'll be dry in a couple hours. It all depends on what kind of clear coat.

thanks for the info. ive decided to just sand it down, wetsand, and then do a prime/paint/clearcoat for the weekend. ill take the bumper off and respray the whole thing next week.

No point in dolling it up for an extended road run, it'll just ruin it faster.

yea i cant stand to see my car with chipped paint all weekend, so i had to do something until i can actually get it painted.
