So yesterday morning after I got off work I was lazy and parked in the assigned parking spot infront of my apt instead of putting my baby to sleep in her garage. I get up later in the day walk out to the car and some genious thought it would be a good idea to carve into my fresh paint job "f@#k you pig" and "death to the pigs" as well as "P.I.R.U" (local street gang"pimps in red uniforms") (supposedly some kind of bloods according to the cops) all over my poor car, top to bottom :| so the wife and I pulled her into the garage and decided screw it, rattle can her flat black again :sosad: now, come payday I'm going to strip her all the way back down to bare metal and was wondering what yall would suggest for a good (prefferably inexpensive) primer. Ive got the gun and compressor so thats not a big deal. Ive painted a few cars in my day, but never on bare metal before so some input would be MUCH appreciated guys:hellyeah: well anyway thats my story. what a day.

Well if you are planing on striping it all the way back to bare metal, you will need to use some sort of etching/direct to metal primer, I personally like Valspar Sunlock II Etching Primer... After this Metal etching coat, you want to just use some scotch bright it all to rough if back up, and then spray you normal primer, and this is when you can start block the like dings out, that you typically can see or feel...

If you have any other questions, let me know, ive painted a few cars, and actually in the process of painting one right now.

WOW.. WTF.. :ohdamn: :banghead: im kinda pissed for you.. i would blow up and it kinda sucks cause its not like you could confront the guy who did it cause it was most likley more then one and you would pry leave with a few extra holes after being shot. but hope it turns out alright! post some pics :thumb:

Hey thanks for both the advise (will look into the primers you suggested) and the empathy. Much appreciated on both counts :hellyeah: well Ill post up some pics of the flat black paint job for now, when I head out to garage in a bit and snap some pics for yall, supprisingly, it doesnt look too bad for flat black. On a side note for some odd reason, the last couple days since taking her flat again ive gotten quite a few of those pesky little honda boys wanting to race ROFL favorite though was one dude at a red light, some dude in a bright yellow CRX with a drifter body kit, yelled over "hey man! Is that a GS??? Those things are fast! Wanna go" ME: Nice Body kit  gotta love it.

Yeah knowing these idiots out here I probably would leave with a few extra holes in me LOL greenDSMdude think its possible to install a catch can setup on a person in one of those situations? ROFL

Well I told you guys I'd post up some pics of my new rattlecanned against my will paint job, didnt come out too shabby :barf::hellyeah: Lady in the second picture inside the car is my wife, she insisted on waving hi to all the DSM guys and gals here ( I think she just wanted some camera time ) and the third pic down is a sign I got for christmas, just thought I'd share. P.S. I would have posted up some pics of the "before" i.e. the engraved grafitti, but I'm not too sure the mods would have appreciated it too much LOL

Sand around the area see how deep it is then just sand, and prime it and repaint damaged area. Ive painted mine, some type of primer at your local autostore.

Thanks for the advice man :thumb: Ive already sanded out the damage on her. The damage went down through about 3 layers. It's just that she's been painted twice before, so thats equals out to in order Stock paint, primer, three coats single stage enamel, primer, single stage enamel and then flat black on top of it all OMG . So that comes out to about 6 layers of paint on there already, just seems like alot to paint over again ya know?

Ive painted mine several times, its got coats but it is ok, im going to repaint this summer again. Starting with the engine bay.

I have 30+ years in the Paint and Body business. First, how many panels have damage ? Is the damage over the entire panel or a small area? Before you do anything you should remove the rattle can paint. Using a block sander or a dual action sander held flat, very carefully sand the rattle can paint off the surface. this should leave all the damaged areas filled with the rattle can paint showing the damage. When a car is keyed or gouged with a screwdriver it usually leaves a dented groove . You will see it if the primer is wider than the actual scratch after block sanding. Take a disk sander with minimum 80 grit and grind all the paint out of the damaged areas. feather the edges with a dual action sander then fill with a polyester filling glaze available at your local auto paint supply store. block sand the damage, re glaze until it feels that all damage is gone. Primer with a 2 part polyurethane primer. sand the whole car with 320 grit then paint as desired. PM me for a more detailed repair process. This can be a very time consuming repair but shouldn't need to be stripped to metal everywhere.

They pretty much got me on every panel, roof, hood, fenders, doors everything but the bumpers and glass (thank God!) we already sanded out the "engraved areas" so its pretty smooth. I was just a little concerned about several layers of paint on a car, I.E. cracking, spider webbing or major waves on the large panels. Thanks for the reply!

hey man i feel the pain... i left my car sittin out at a friends house one weekend and this punk ass kid keyd the hell out of my car and took some sharp object to the bumpers and put nice deep grooves in the front bumper... so unfortunately my motor comes first had to do some small engine repairs figured that is way more important anyways... i can deal with some scratches... im gonna look into the primers and stuff also when i repaint mine... thanks for the info even tho it wasnt directed to me... my car is also flat black rite now which is y i looked at the thread in the first place...
