P0442 cars loud, could it be the flex pipe?

I just got my car fixed, drove on a 2 hour trip everything fine. As soon as I get home my car started making loud noises at low-mid rpm and seems bogged down. Engine light came on and its code P0442. Since my cars very noticeably louder under the drivers side I think, I don't think its a feul tank leak, or faulty feul cap. That leaves leaking vent or purged solenoid, or evap hose faulty. I just got a new flex pipe, could that be it? Any help is greatly appreciated!!


BTW I have a 97 eclipse 420a

This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system.

Long story short emissions leak. Could be as simple as a gas cap or a hole in ## vacuum emission controll.

Also Id check the cat. I use to have a 95 gs and cat got clogged up bad lost power/through code

Thanks for the reply. Would a tiny hole cause my car to sound MUCH louder and drive bogged down? And is there a way to check where the hole is? Thanks!

How can I check the cat? Also would that cause my car to be ridiculously loud?

no a clogged cat will not make you loud it would make it more quite. but it would make u bogg down a tad.

Im just saying what that code was im not sure of what your complete prob is

You can take it to a shop and have them "smoke" the evap system. It is a pain in the ass to find them with the machine, i wouldnt want to try and find the leak without one .

Okay i might do that, but does anyone know why my car would be very loud from under the front of the cabin. It sounds like the noise is coming from under the driver and passenger seats.

if its an exhaust prob and its loud from more than just the end it could be an exhaust leak
