Is it possible to get a early generation evo from overseas and register it here in the states? I REALLY like the evo 4 and 5 How would someone go about pursuing one?

As far as Military goes there are a lot of restrictions as to what you can bring with you to Japan... mostly allowed to bring with you older American muscle cars, not newer Japanese manufactured cars (yea I know go figure). I have no idea what it would take for a civilian to have one imported to Japan. But you could always go over there and find an EVO5 and part it out, bring all the pieces/parts back with you and slap them in a Mirage back here. Wouldn’t be much different than getting the parts from a parts importer. Only you would get to drive the car for a while in Japan and then the US gov would pay to ship your parts back as long as they don’t have any oil in them (within reason anyway)...

Honestly the closest and probably cheapest way to come close to having an EVO5 or 6 here in the states would be to find a place locally (or as local as you can get) who would be willing to work with you in getting you parts. Make them an offer like, you want the firewall, front cross member, column, dash, steering rack, ect. Ect. They sell the motor and trans to someone else. You do the RHD conversion to a mirage and piece the rest of it together using EVO8 eng trans and what not. This way you get your RHD EVO5 look alike and you can build the motor from scratch with whatever parts you deem necessary. IF you really want to throw something special together have them work something out where you get all the AYC components as well. EVO5 with a ACD, AYC, and a built 4g64 with an FP red or HX35… Sounds like fun to me.
