Well I think I'm to the point where I'm going to part out my car if anyone wants something just hit me up I'd like to sell most of the stuff to people that are local. look through my modlist and scratch the back of your head thinking about what all you need for your cars. Everything on the car is going to go. Interior, Exterior, suspension, drivetrain, Everything. Later.

I just found this forum and can't believe there is an Olathe/OP thread here!

I had a '92 :talon: Talon AWD for 7 years, and then bought a new '99 GSX Eclipse. The only cars I've ever owned have been DSMs. I've been thinking about modding my DSM for years (even when I had my Talon), and am now doing some serious research on it.

Does the KC area or Johnson county area DSM group meet often? I have a lot of questions - my biggest one right now being, how loud is the 2.5" turbo back exhaust mod compared to a 3" (I know it depends on the brand, whether it has resonators, etc.)

I figured the best way to find out is to just meet some DSM'ers in town and hear some cars myself. Plus I can meet some other people with similar interests.

My car is totally stock, so I could use some 'real-world' advice from people that have actually done mods in town. I've read a "lot" online (DSM tuners upgrade path, Extreme Motorsports, etc), and have some ideas of what I want to do - and am close to making some initial purchases. I may even be in the market for used parts, although I like shiny new parts :D

I'm not looking for an end-all be all drag racer (not yet at least) - just a daily sleeper street car to get more power without making a ton of noise (to me, excess noise does not equal sleeper). Right now I'm thinking I'd do all the mods up to the 16G turbo, but who knows, as I get into it, I may change my mind and want more!

you never did give me a reason on the kcdsm list as to WHY you are doing this.
 
Squishy? Is that your email? I just replied. For some reason all the KCDSM stuff goes to my Bulk mail folder and Sometimes I don't even look at that stuff and I delete it. Didn't mean to make you feel ignored.:cry:

Basically just tired of sinking money into this thing. So much needs to be replaced to make it really reliable. Looking into getting something newer with about 1/5 the miles. 30k or less.

Thanks everyone for all the welcomes! I'm up for an April 10 meeting in Johnson County. Let me know where. I could also suggest meeting at Heritage Park in Olathe. Shelter 9-10 has a nice sized lot and is off the beaten path some.

Of course, if the point is to be where there is food and drink (and other people), then any one of the fine establishments in JoCo would work perfectly well too....Sounds like prior meetings have been there (was there one near Oak Park Mall last month?)

Silent2G, having read a bunch more posts on exhaust sound, I think keeping the noise level low is going to be one of my highest priorities. Those posts where people have to wear earplugs just to drive their DSM on the highway, or are rattling the neighbors windows, is the exact opposite of where I want to go. Of course, I know low noise = lower airflow = lower power, but I'm trying to find a nice balance - or at least a more powerful balance than stock.

If I had to build the equivalent of 300HP of potential with a 3" exhaust, but it was choked down to 260-270HP to get close to stock sound (2.5" exhaust, silencers?), I would consider that a good trade off.

So much to learn.... I know that adding hardware can get HP, but at some point, better tuning can also produce results. Would love to hear everyone's stories. I know everything is a tradeoff - money, sound volume, ride, comfort (AC, vibrations, etc.), acceleration, top speed, turbo lag, boost creep, gas mileage, etc. I love multi-variable problems such as this - and I suspect that is part of what keeps this a fascinating hobby.

My wife would kill me if I made the Eclipse loud. Something just over stock sound would be fine - this car is our daily driver, but I hate to see all that potential HP under the hood go to waste. (I keep telling my wife that my car can't breathe, and I make short wheezing sound effects)

Oh, one more thing, my car is an auto. Yeah, yeah, I know manuals are more fun, have more control, etc. but this really is a daily driver with all the conveniences. For various reasons, my goal is to beef it up without anyone but the sharpest eye suspecting it is anything but stock - I'm really into the 'sleeper' concept right now. Few people would think twice about an automatic.

This is probably a different problem to solve for then what seems to be the typical enthusiast on these forums (optimizing for race track acceleration, speed, low weight, and fast 1/4 miles), but I'm sure the knowledge and experience would apply equally to my situation as well.

If I could get this 3200+lb AWG A/T car to produce a sub 6 sec 0-60mph acceleration under normal road driving conditions (e.g. spare in trunk, 91 octane pump gas, not excessively loud), with some more power under highway passing/acceleration conditions, I'd be way more than pleased.
 
well if you need any help, pm me or jump on the kcdsm list and i can help out, plus others on there as well.

i had a 3.5 inch turbo back on my 95 gsx, with a magnaflow muffler, it was actually quiter then the exhaust i had on my tsi. till i stepped into it.

then again the gsx put down over 400 to the wheels

i'll come, limping.....fuking turbo is going to be shooting the shit real soon. just yesterday i noticed the all to familiar white/blue cloud after i shift under boost......:barf: :thumbdown

so.. any1 seen any sites offering some good sales on turbos? i don't really want a 16g - but it'd be a quick cheap fix, i'd like atleast a 20g. but i guess we'll have to see how long it takes before my 14b goes.
