I just put a new head on my car and it keeps overheating. I didn't have any problems before but i also put basically all my mods on at once including the fmic some one told me that the head gasket could be bad and is pressurizing the system. It only seems to get hot on the high way and when i put some boost to it. I don't know if this is true or not any help would be great.

1. Which HG gasketdid you use?

2. What size FMIC?

3. AC removed?

4. Stock or aftermarket fans? What size?

5. What other mods?

Well i have a 10.5" fmic one 12" fal slim line wired to the ac switch, 57 trim garrett, 650cc injectors with 3" gm mas and maft but i don't have a afc of any kind yet i was told to use the felpro gasket and not a metal one i put a 160 degree thermostat and a new water pump on when putting the head on i don't know if it is getting really hot because of running lean possibly or if the radiator is bad (new one will be here monday) what happens is it gets hot and starts spraying coolant out the over flow tank and i did replace cap w/ a 13lb cap I am stuck

All three measurements.

This is most likely your problem.

1. You should have a 12" and a 9", one fan will not be enough especially if you have a huge front mount.

2. Wired to the AC means the fan will never come on until the AC is turned on, you need to wire it to the cooling fan side so it's triggered by coolant temperature. I'm currently running a 12 and a 9 both wired to the passinger side harness.

57 trim garrett, 650cc injectors with 3" gm mas and maft but i don't have a afc
I don't see a logger, how are you tuning your 650s?

I am tuning by a maf translator and just setting the injector size but i did buy a pocket logger but i don't know how to use it. also i just leave the fan on all the time by turning the ac on, i didn't reconnect the ac compressor to the crankshaft.

Not good, you need to get your car tuned properly. Pay a pro or learn how to use your logger, ASAP.

Depending on the seize of your fmic, one 12" fan is most likely not enough. Having it on all the time is not only unnecessary, it's also bad for the fan. Get yourself an addition 9" and hook it up like described above.

Well I am stuck, I put a new radiator and am running a second fan, i replace thermostat and water pump and put water wetter in the mix too. The upper radiator hose gets extremely hard after a decent drive and i keep putting coolant in even though there doesn't appear to be any leaks anywhere I don't know what to do next :( :talon:

I have a bad feeling i am going to have to pull the head and replace the head gasket. But people i talk to tell me that it should be fine b/c i don't have any coolant in my oil

Overheating.....
Replace Radiator Cap
Replace Thermostat
Replace Radiator Cap
Make sure your fans are wired correctly and coming on. Also make sure your fans are set correctly, If they need to be on pull, make sure they're on pull and not push.
In front of the radiator closest to the bumper, push. Closest to the engine, stock placement, they need to be on pull.

If you've done all of this and you're still overheating and losing coolant then you need to run a compression test.
It's not hard to do and will tell you if you've got a headgasket problem or not.

The fans are pulling and they come on when they are supposed to, i put in a new cap and a thermostat but i did a leak down test and got no bubbles in coming in through the coolant but i will try a compression test and see what happens. :talon:

I had a friend with a similar problem. He replaced the radiator and the thermostat and the cap. The leak test passed. It turned out that he left the little black cap on the lower radiator hose port. The hose slipped right over it. Pull you hoses and just double check. It sounds stupid but a little 2 cent piece of plastic ended up costing him $300.00 at the dealership.

when we had the prelude. the vaccum hose was torn, and it wasnt getting the pressure needed to the motor, and it made it overheat. so you might want to check the vacuum hoses.
I will not get into an argument with you on whether or not vacuum leaks will cause overheating but I will say this, your involvement on the forum is appreciated but please make sure that you only post in subjects in which you know absolutely 100% about, not what you heard. ;)
