MAF & Overheating Problem....??

Hey i was looking into getting 92 FWD 4g63 non turbo...its only 700 bucks...and it runs awesome. shifts good, nd looks amazing in and out. plus it comes with like 400 dollars worth of bran new parts not put on yet..(in bcak seat)..

well, what I found really weird is, when i started it up...the MAF wasnt hooked up. it wsant plugged in and at first when u fired it up..it would idle rough and want to die...and fter driving for a alil while, it stayed at 1,000 rpms...easy.

then when i got out and plugged the MAF wire hook-up bck in...it started to putter and die down...eventually shut off. plus when its unhooked...it has a slight delay in 1st gear launch...sooo IDK what do to about that. replace the MAF w/ another...? i mean shouldnt it be surging like HELL w/o it being hooked up? and basicly not run smooth at all...it doesn't surge at all O_O?

well, another problem it has, is the oil pressure is shot all the way down to the right....sunk down low. aand the Cold/heat gauge after letting it run 4 a lil while, it SLOWLY but surely creeps up...pst halfway and looks like it stilll wants to go..so im like no ty and shut it off. i didnt wanna overheat it.

the guy saays that it the (ricer white face gauges that are installed) were just not done right by the guy who owned it before him. and he is almost positive that its not really overheating.

now i replaced the thermostat, and i put new fluid in...IDK?

think its worth it??

wtf is going on w/ the MAF...it shouldnt do that, should it? ...any advice/info would be nice. ty

All problems can be fixed somehow. Usually with the maf unplugged it will run really rough a then die sometimes. I would do a quick swap and see what happens. With the oil pressure, does it instantly go to "high" and stay there? And with the temp gauge, It could possibly be overheating, that's usually what the gauge does when your overheating. Do you have access to an infared temp gauge? You could use that to see what the t-stat housing temp is when the gauge shoots up.

yea i have another MAF...i just interchnage it out and see if that helps any...i hope its not the wir'ing, cause that would be a pain to change(IMO, idk much ;d) nd the oil pressure stats sunk past H its laying down...it wont budge; ever. tact, mph, gas looks good...

what would cause it to overheat, a blown head gasket? so if i did a compression test, and that passed; would that all that I'd need to do...or look into something else to find out why its overheating.

the guy said, when he drove it daily for 6 months n then lost his license...and parked it for the current sale...it would raise for him and then stop about 75% to "H"(high) nd it would stop and kinda then strt going down....nd it really doenst overheat its just a malfunction in the gauges...wht signs can I look for, to see if its really overheating.

i dont think the engine wsa too hot. it felt kinda normal...IDK really.

The needle on the oil pressure gauge may be on wrong. Because any wiring issues with those will stick the needle at "low" unless your sending unit is jacked up. A quick check for a blown head gasket if it is blown bad enough is to just let the engine run with the radiator cap off and look for bubbles. there should be no bubbles in the coolant with the engine running.
