Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has some before and after coolant temp data of using the Jay Racing alternator relocation kit and driving the water pump off of the power steering ribs? From my math, it appears that the pump would be over driven 67% which I think is not good. Additionally, does anyone know how fast the impeller would have to spin to cause cavitation and cause cooling issues? I understand that fin shape, size, curve, etc. have a dramatic impact on this, but maybe someone has already figured it out.

FYI, I've heard first hand experience that using the inner ribs has caused cooling issues. I'm just trying to understand it more and see if maybe I can create a different solution.

Thanks

TJ

You have a 1g so you dont have anything to worry about. Its the 2gs that have to run on the inner ribs. Also most of the time people do the 3 belt mod so they dont throw belts at high rpms.

Well most likely, the water pump already cavitates in the upper 9000+ rpms. However it is essentially a non issue for most people, as we are only in that range for a few seconds. The only ones who would have experience with extensive cooling system limits/ issues is people with mile long/bonniville type events. Maybe time attack cars, but they mostly live in the mid range.

In your first post you said you are trying to understand the issue so you can create a solution. Are you looking to make an inner pulley the same size as the driven pulley? Im not sure if you realized or not, but a product like that is already available.

Anyways. I'll be interested in hearing others thoughts on our cooling system as I'm mostly a drag strip guy.
