Ok, i'm a n00b when it comes to audio who does't know crap. Any ways, i have 2 Audiobahn 1251t 400 watt 12" subs and a 800 watt Xplode 1-channel amp. I want to get a bandpass box and mount the woofers upside down with the chrome basket sticking up showing the flames and stuff. I also want to put in 2 blue LEDs to light it up at night to show it off. My question is, will the sound quality suck with the bandpass or will it still be decent enough. Note that i just want to sound good and look good, not anything great. Also, which of these boxes should I get?

If i remember correctly bandpass boxes are designed to filter out any farting or distortion the subwoofer makes, hence allowing you to turn it up louder. So i think the sound quality will be ok. As for which box to get... i've absolutely no idea. If the inside volume is the same they should all probably sound about the same, it just matters which design you want.

i don't really know which one I want though, thats the problem. I'm still not sure where to mount the amp at either, it won't fit under the passenger seat in the front so i'd have to mount it in the back somewhere either on the box itself or somewhere else.

would you tell me why they suck so badly or at least give me a suggestion on what else to buy?

sure. the reason you can turn your shit up louder in a bandpass has 2 reasons... 1, it hides the distortion you cant hear it which = bad and 2, when to tones of the same frequency are put together, they cancel each other out...ive just never had any luck with them...i cant stand them...i stick with ported or sealed...usually sealed for me

i would say your box choice should depend on the type of music you listen to. if you listen primarily to rap/hiphop, the bandpass will be great! if you like rock or jazz/classical, go with a sealed box. if you''re like me, and listen to a wide variety of music, go for a ported box; it will give you you the most flexibility as far as sound goes. personally, i prefer ported or sealed (depending on the sub & enclosure design) and after doing car audio for almost 9 years now, i still prefer those two, but have personally had each of them at one time or another.

I listen to mostly hip hop, r&b, easy listening, and techno/trance.

even with rap i beat harder with a sealed than a bandpass...i hate them

yes, my ported box beats harder too, but if you like the low, long, drawn out bass notes, the bandpass will provide more of that then either of the other boxes will. plus, with his amplifier, the bandpass will be more efficient for him. sealed require more power than BP or Ported boxes

i sense sarcasm  i'm not an expert, he was just wondering about the differences. myself, ported or sealed all the way! i run ported in my laser, and a single sealed 10" SoundStream Velvet Hammer in my Honduh (beater/daily), they both have their positive sounds. however, i also have more than enough power running both systems, that they perform the way they should. i listen to a variety of music, and have space issues in each car. therefore, each box best suites the vehicle it is in

97raptor, go to a local audio shop, and listen to all 3 styles of boxes. try to listen to different boxes but perferebly with the same subs in each box (if possible). take your own CD in there with some of YOUR favorite music on it. then YOU make the decision. that is the only way to really find out i think.

I'm not trying to blow womens clothes off or anything, i just want some modertly good sounding bass. I wont have it outlandishly loud either because i have pretty sensitive ears. I'll prolly be putting in a DVD player and in-dash LCD screen later on just for refrence.

btw, my area is getting pounded by tornados right now, LOL. I'm so devoted......

no sarcasm in my post....i thought you might take it that way....i was just saying you probably have more experience with bandpass boxes than me nd was admitting you probably know more (thats hard for me to do) LOL

why not? LOL

Go ported or sealed! Bandpasses suck in a hatch. I have tried them all. Ported is the loudest, sealed good all around, bandpass SUCK!!! I wouldn't put a bandpass in anything. If someone gave me a bandpass, I would cut it up and make a ported box.
