ok so im coming home tonight on a kinda long open road in the laser (mods are in my sig, not many whatsoever) cruising at about 45 mph, and there was a car a decent amount behind me most of the way (say, 6-7 car lengths) then outta nowhere i see him nail it and come up on me fast. as i see him get into the oncoming lane to pass me. i drop it into 3rd and floor it for the hell of it to see if i could hold him off. i put up a fight but he still got past me. at that point i could hear the V8 growlin' as it made its way around me. and noticed that it was a brand new mustang. didnt even have plates yet. he then proceeded to stand on it to leave me in the dust, but he couldnt put more than a car's distance between us the whole time, i even let off a tiny bit here and there because i felt i was getting a little TOO close for comfort...... so here's my question.... was his initial effort to pass me too much of a jump for me to be able to catch right up easily to prevent him from passing me?.... should i have dropped all the way to 2nd briefly? (i dont think i like the sound of that). or are the new GT's just plain too quick (i think an 04 cobra woulda murdered me , so im pretty sure it was only a GT)... regardless im not terribly upset that i wasnt able to hold him off. because no matter what. im sure the fact that he couldnt get the little stock blue laser off his ass HAD to ruin the "i just got a brand new bad ass fast v8 car" feeling at least a little.

Originally in you thread you stated you had 6 to 7 cars on him , then he gunned it, and by the time you noticed, you dropped it in third and tried to hold him off right?

OK his car is fast because he over came a greater distance than you had at the end . Basically if both of you were neck to neck he/she would have eaten you'r food and kept you at alot more than just a car.

So I hope I answered your question but for future refrenceses, try and not START a import / domestic flame war. ok.

A car is a car , and a person is a person, no matter what badge you wear , in the end you both are still the same ppl with the same love of it all.

So good luck and watch out for the highway police.

i have absolutely no idea where you got the idea that i was trying to start an import/domestic flame war...... i was simply trying to compare one car to another. and straighten out some basic "laws of physics" when it comes to being passed, and which would yield greater results.... coming up gradually to pass some one while accelerating like the guy in the mustang. or downshifting int 3rd and nailing it like i did. i previously would have thought that the downshift would have provided a better "burst" than it did.... but since i wasnt able to hold this guy off that tells me 1 of a few things...... A. maybe i didnt downshift low enough. B. maybe him flying up on me is too much of a head start to recover from. or C. his car is just plain faster than mine. THIS is what i was looking for opinions on, i may be a newbie when it comes to DSM's, and i've never gotten myself into any kind of "race" scenerio that hasnt been from a stop (which is why i have these questions), but i'm not a newbie to cars, or life in general..... i drive a chevy S10, a plymouth laser, and have previously owned a honda civic, and a z28 camaro, i've been in the show scene for a few years now, and if theres one thing you learn it's that there is nothing to be gained by hating on one kind of car or another, and you especially gain an appreciation for all kinds of cars. so forgive me if i take offense to your comment, as i'm sure you didnt mean it. but if you think that's me. you're wrong.

Its C. any v8 will destroy a slight modded DSM in anything beyond a 1/4 mile ESPECALLY if its AWD FWD have a better chance. When i drive my brohter Roush stage 2 Mustang from 80-120 doesnt take long at all.:dsm:

your a moron dude older mustangs were slow as shit i could beat them with my t-25 and a boost controller from a ROLL

it all depends on what you come across (whether its a waste of money rausch all show package or w/e)

2nd - the reason he was able to pass you was because he punched it WAY BEFORE YOU! if he is 6-7 lengthes back and punches it at say 60mph he is going to be already going like 80-90mph by the time you probably notice. At this point you notice him hauling up and punch it from 60 for example - well its too late - to keep himfrom passing you your going to have to at least match his speed and he's already going 80-90 and sitll acceleratin...... pretty obvious

you sir are also a moron - by saying his car is faster cause he overcame a greater distance HAHAHAH - moron.

Just to start off,,, bzzt you are right and I did not mean to give you offence nor do I intend to offend your thread.

Ok now on to you,, first off dont go around calling ppl morons because nobody has pointed you out and insulted you ,, so dont do it to any body else PERIOD.

AND I SIR AM NOT A MORON iF YOU STILL THINK THAT i AM GOOD FOR YOU BUT THEN AGAIN THAT IS ONLY YOUR SORRILY MISSINFORMED OPINION.

I still stand on my previous statement as far the neck to neck start comment, and thats is all that matters .

ps dont be mean and uncool , just sit back and help .

Well said...

Im sorry a roush stage 2 shouldnt be in the same ball park as most v8s. Its not a gt with a different muffler they are ALOT faster than a gt. Yes a 03 cobra would have torn you a new one but GTs are mid 14 sec cars and when I only had intake I kept up with one that had flowmasters on the highway. But for all those people with dsm who cant drive if your mildly modded dont mess with a new gt other wise they are about even in performance leaning more twards the new gt by a tenth or 2, but top end the gt cant compete. Oh and no not ALL v8s will destroy a lightly modded dsm anything beyond the 1/4. Sh*t Im slightly modded and beat a cobra on the stock turbo from a roll.

thanks for the input guys, and dont get me wrong im not a complete moron about this stuff, basically what we have established here is "gt punching it from 6 lengths back > laser dropping from 5 to third at 45 mph..... and also ,GT isnt exactly slow. which is exactly the info i was looking for. judging by the way i was able to hang on to his ass afterwards, i think if we both went from a roll i could keep up with him.... but essentially what happened here is he went from a roll....... a little before i did. so i feel a LITTLE better about what happened.

What, between two domestic cars?

O, and street racing = bad. Read about any of the six dead so far this month.

And be careful.

I've got $800 in performance mods and I've owned new style gts from a stop or roll

From my experince with my Laser. If your still turning stock boost, I think you should of dropped to 2nd, but anything above that would be a bad idea, at 15psi when i put it back into 2nd at 40+ The shock will cause me to break traction.

For the dude that is calling people a moron. STFU, LOL In stock fourm I keep up with new mustang GTs I can't pass them, and they can't put cars on me. Sorry but a roush stage 2 will take a stock/mildly modded DSM, they are by far not slow. You may show his brother your "launch" but once u start closing in the 1/4mile He is going to close that gap fast.

i dont have a boost controller, but after doing the BCS mod i'm hitting 14 psi. so thats a little above stock....... and defiant, i'm not gonna argue with that. you are right, i always tell myself "i'm not gonna race on the street, it's not worth it" then of course now and then i get tempted..... i have to say i've been pretty good, i've only gotten into like 4-5 "altercations" on the street..... but you are totally right, it only takes 1 to end it all. untill i feel my car is worthy to take to the track i think i need to stick to throwin sparks and hittin switches in the truck. :D

ok someone quote specs on the damn "RAUSCH" mustang already

I'd like to see it pull a 1.8 60' or better on street tires

Agreed Very much, I am so tired of people calling dsm's Imports!!...Oh and just fore warning(and not to get into a flame war) but a guy at work in his stock 03 cobra pulled a 1.8-1.9 on streets not sure which but it WAS one of the two.
