Ok I'm a stupid idiot, but need help

Ok i'm a idiot and have the complete top half of my motor off. However I dont have the front cover off yet because of the crankshaft pully. I cant get the big bolt that holds it on to break loose because there is nothing to stop the motor from turning over. Any one have any ideas?

go to the hardware store at get a 4 foot or so piece of angled thick bar stock.

heres a pic of mine. cut it out so it can attach to the other pulley bolts. then you can hold it or wedge it against something while you crack the big nut off with a 1/2 inch socket and probably a cheater bar (i use a 4 foot 1" diameter steel pipe on my 1/2 inch socket wrench)

I went to a hardware store and bought a locking chain wrench. I tried using the other 4 bolts around it and ended up breaking one. That was probably the hardest part I had to take off, completely dissassembled the motor in about an hour or so after that. Good luck

make sure that the bolts surrounding it are fully threaded in so that you aren't pulling against the middle of them. they will bend or break. tighten them down so that the force isn't on the threads of the bolts as much

I took off the oil pan and stuck a crescent wrench in my crankshaft. The wrench had a rubber grip so it wouldn't gouge anything...not like it mattered because my block was shot at the time. Also had to use a 2 foot cheater bar. It's quite a pita the first time.

all i used to take off mine was a impact wrench. i turned about not even a inch and the bolt came out.
