I just bought a 90 gst and first off, there's no timing cover on it at all (timing belt was just done by previous owner and wasnt put back on), but on the timing belt side where the hump is in the hood, there's oil all over it....and down in where the belts are its alllll coverred in oil. Now, i dont even know where to begin to look but anyone have any ideas where i should start. I was maybe thinkin the valve cover and the gears were just throwin it all over the place, but there's no visible leaks around there anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh yea, what year car's did the oil filter like to back off of?

Well, if the cover is off, you could change the cam and crank seals and re-install the timing belt to finish off that possible problem.

Valve cover leak is not all that uncommon either.

If this doesn't do it, then a flourescent dye test will be in store for you when you get it running. That will tell you for sure where it's coming from.

Good Luck

Yeah if you really need to find it (and since its on the belts I would do it) you can get some dye @ NAPA for like 3.49 and pinpoint that sucker! They also have it for fuel lines and coolant lines also for future reference! Hope you get it figured out.
