Oil Pump

Ok so i just tore down my block, and put it back together, and on the first start up my oil pump started to leak like insane. The pump its self is good and there aren't any cracks. The question I have is, I used silicone instead of a gasket. is this ok or should i just use the gasket?. is there to much oil pressure to use silicone?

Yes... you should have used the gasket... did you use silicon just on the oil pump gasket or on the entire front case as well?

take the timing belt cover off and make sure your bolts are good and tight. I have seen it leek out the bolt hole

I used it on the whole front case. The bolts were nice and tight. My water pump isnt leaking so i figured silicone worked there. I took off everything that was needed to get to the oil pump, but when i goto re-assemble it should i put a gasket or try again?

Yes put a gasket in there, its too much serface to mate without a gasket! Its like putting your head on with o-rings and silicone! Its not going to work..
The thing is, the block may not be perfectly serfaced on the side, meaning it could be warped of some sort, so where the gasket takes up for the imperfections!

It also won't hurt to smear silicone on both side of the gasket before installing it!
Just wipe enough on both sides to make it sticky, that will give it a better seal.

i couldnt find a gasket maybe im calling it the wrong name, or kansas sucks, or is it a dealership only part ? oreillys and autozone cant find the gasket. i aint started my car yet tho

Try timing cover gasket, or front case gasket for autozone. Felpro sells it for around $8

I highly recommend getting that gasket before starting you're motor!
I think the part stores call it, ( timing cover gasket )!!!
Silicone can't handle 90+ psi of oil pressure alone, when the car is first started up! The gasket is a must, when installing a oil pump.

I will just nobody had it then i tried to use make a gasket roll and didnt work so good then used black rtv really thin coat and let it set up half way before applying and was gonna hope for the best glad this thread came along ill be starting it in the next few days when i get this injector in the mail

Sounds good man, good luck with getting the gasket installed, and not having any leaks! Make sure you clean all the old rtv off the block, and pump! Do you're best, and you shouldn't have any leaks, or problems.

Me and my bro put the gasket, but with no silicone. This is on his 6-bolt 1g.
Can it be possible to leak.?
I just want to make sure since the engine is still out of the car. And we can fix that before puting the engine back in the car.

Sounds good man, good luck with getting the gasket installed, and not having any leaks! Make sure you clean all the old rtv off the block, and pump! Do you're best, and you shouldn't have any leaks, or problems.

Yes that wont be a problem at all been doing this for a while just new to dsms

You don't have to put silicone on the gasket, its mainly to keep the gasket in place while installing the pump! It can also give it that added seal protection!
I'm sure, if everything is torqued to the right specs, you will be fine with just installing the gasket alone!

I'd recommend copper spray for that gasket and the oil filter housing gasket. Even with it torqued properly it still wants to leak, till I started trying out different things (i.e. copper spray on gaskets near oil) - worked great for me.

It won't wont leak if its put together right, I have put plenty of motors together with out using copper spray, or silicone on the gasket, without any leaking what so ever!

I guess I should've rephrased that, sometimes it can leak even when properly torqued. Perhaps from a bad/warped mating surface...I've only had leaks on used oil pumps. The new one this year doesn't leak a drop of oil with no copper spray.
