hello.. please help me!! My oil problem is consisting! I noticed oil in IC system, so i switched turbo's with one off of a buddy's car. I also put on a new oil return line because mine was crimped.. it has been a week of driving now, and the smoking still continues.. 135psi compression in all four cylinders, head was checked out.. no cracks, not warped and all seals are good. oil feed line is a 2g style.

I'll start it up, let it warm and rev it out, no smoke.. ill hold the revs and let the oil pressure build, no to very little smoke. So, I go drive it. Smoke! just a little smoke while driving normal, but the harder I am on it, the more it smokes.. I can boost it, it'll smoke bad.. then I'll let off and it'll continue to smoke bad for a minute, then settle down to a light smoke again...

does it sound like this turbo is blown as well??

I think you mean "persisting"not "consisting". I say its something engine related such as rings. 135 is pretty low for compression.

I really don't think it is rings.. I pulled off the exhasut mani and let it run for awhile, and never saw any smoke..

It is white with a small blue tint.

Pcv is routed in and like stock. hose from intake mani to valve screwed into valve cover.

Sounds like your turbo seals are shot.

Go and give it one nice pull, but don't get crazy on it. Come back and let it cool down then check your LICP. You've probably been losing oil. You have been keeping an eye on the dipstick right?

:(

Yes, I have been losing oil.. not a whole lot, but some..

I;m just wondering though.. if the seals were shot.. wouldnt the turbo smoke all the time.. or at least when the oil pressure rises? It will not smoke in neutral.. at high or low pressure at any rpm.. but as soon as I go drive it and put a good load on it.. it starts smokin.

Well, I did a strong, quick pull, and pulled the LICP off.. there was some oil build up in the outlet of the turbo. Not a huge amount, but enought that made a puddle I could put my finger into. So, I am assuming that there shouldn't be any right? meaning my seals are blown right??

Ok, so tell me.. if the seals are indeed blown, then why does it only leak while driving hard? I assume that a leaky seal would smoke constantly.

Seals aren't totally shot. They have a small leak in them. At this juncture in time it takes more than minimum oil pressure to get oil through the leak, but it'll get worse.

whats the shaft play like in this turbo? if it doesnt have bad shaft play i would say do a boost leak test. this happened to me once and whenever i went into boost i would blow a HUGE CLOUD of white smoke. ended up being a boost leak. so before you go and do all that work swaping turbos try a boost leak test :thumb:

Check your oil return capacity again. It's very possible that your old turbo was smoking due to poor return capacity, same probably holds true for the replacement one. I also suggest repeating the compression test again and follow it up with a wet test, 135 isn't exactly healthy.
