OK i have a glowshift oil pressure gauge on my pillar and when I hook it up to a power it tachs out.(car not on) When I pull the ground it kills then when i hook it back up it tachs out again. it lights up fine but the gauge is f-ed up! I have NEW wires that are not broken anywhere. Everything is hooked up...The Sending unit wire, the ground...and the power is hooked up to a hot under the dash just above the fuse box...Can anyone shed some light on this?

do you have the gauge connected to the stock sending unit? if so it might not work properly.
If the two are on the stock unit only your stock gauge will work not the after market unit. happened to me before, as soon as i hooked up both sending unit the two gauges work properly.

It is hooked up to the stock oil pressure gauge...and when i hook BOTH up to the stock oil pressure gauge it tachs out. ill try to hook up the aftermarket sending unit again but i dunno... Why would it be taching out even when the cars off. it even tachs out with the car off. I'm starting to think i have the power hooked up to the sending unit nut and then the sending unit wire hooked to the power. but i checked it like 800 times but i think im going to have to rip the pillar off again which is a pain.

ok today i made sure i dindt have the wires backwards. and i hooked the hot up to the cig lighter and then it started working like a damn voltometer. I have no idea andim getting really pissed off. little help

You can not hook up the after market gauge to the stock sending unit, it will not work.
Also you can not hook up the stock gauge to an after market sending unit.
Have the glow shift gauge connected to the glow shift gauge.

If you want to use the stock gauge still, you can remove the hex bolts in the oil filter housing and put one of the sending units there, or get a "T" fitting from a home depot or some thing and just connect both together. (T fitting is easier, as when I tried the Hex bolts would not budge.)

Our electronic fuel pressure gauge will peg at 100+ PSI with the car off , but when you start it is when it will actually register, thats why above someone asked if you started the car yet with the gauges hooked up like they should be? Have you or not.

i didnt understand either... I just assumed it as the same thing that happened to me when I tried to have both stock and aftermarket gauge "share" the same sending unit.

well I had it hooked up to the cig lighter and it PEGGED(TACHED OUT) immediately but when i turned the car on it went to half, but like I would rev it and see what it did and then it started acting like a voltometer. could that be because of the stock sending unit? If you have a question about something that you dont know what I meant ask. Dont just come into the Forum with shit like..."What the F**k does "tachs out" mean. Its rude and shows that you had no intention on helping. And as far as being a "ricer" thats a dumb comment that shouldnt even be said just makes you look like an asshole.

He had me confused there too. i didnt want to sound rude by asking

Its not rude to ask what something means but when you jump into a forum being a jerk then you have no business being here. Ask properly...hope you guys understand where I'm coming from.

why do you have the gauge connected to the cigarette lighter? you mean just for power?
For the sending unit wire make sure it goes to the Glow shifts own sending unit, all your problems should be fine.

Yea the power sorry. So do you think if I hooked the power back up to the ciglighter(not the light around it) and then ran it to the glowshift sending unit it will work correctly?

"It tachs out" must be some kinda ricer speak. I can't understand the OP wording since he can't talk normal, so I guess I can't help him.

LOL ROFL

but yes...don't try to reverse the sender units, use what it's meant to be used for....i wouldn't run it to the cig ligther either...you can..but i'd rather have my guages on my ignition wire so it's only on when the car is on.

I cant find an ignition wire...Do I have to tear the steering column apart to get to it or do you know which wires are for the ignition down by the fuse box?

also I removed the sending unit for the idiot light and put the glowshift sending unit there. I cant put it in one of the alan bolt holes because I dont have an Alan wrench big enough to get it out. Heres a pic.
