okay today i went to a mechanic to check out my car since im leaking oil. He said that im leaking oil from the turbo and that i need to change the factory turbo which is $1200. I was wonder if i really do need to change it since i see oil leaking from from the oil pan and its leaking from this melal pipe thingy that is connected to the oil pan which is leaded to the turbo. Also is it possible for the turbo to leak oil? Im new to this since i barely got the car a month ago and its a 97 eclipse gst. thanks in advance

dont get a factory turbo, if indeed you do need one, get a upgraded 16g for around $500,

That mech was trying to get $1200 out of you because of a possible bad oil feed line, it could even be loose, get your car up and inspect it closly underneith to see where it is leaking

yeah he was trying to rape you :thumbdown the big 16 i have seen as low as $ 489 !!! but i wouldnt think the factor turbo would be 1200 ???? :D

yea thats what i was thinking also that he is just trying to rip me off. so if i get a 16g turbo upgrade will it be a direct bolt on to where the stock factory turbo is at or would i need to do some modification to it. and thanks for your help, im new to dsm and this is my first dsm car

forgot to mention that the stock factory turbo was 1200 he even said that it was the dealer price that he was charging me for and i remember reading it off somwhere when i was looking on buying an eclipse gst

:dsm: I would suggest you change your oil first. Remove the oil feed line and check to see if there's a gasket that needs to be replaced. Second, if your turbo is truely burning oil, you can check by removing your throttle body flex hose and see if there is any oil. :thumb:

turbo oil leak, the oil is mixed with compressed air from turbo, the air and oil mixture is compressed into intercooler. The oil then goes thru the uip and pass the bov into the throttle body flex hose.

Your turbo doesn't actually burn the oil, its a blow by. Your turbo basically compresses your intake air (along with the oil) and blows it thru your ic where it cools the compressed air, then thru the intake manifold. Once the air+fuel+oil mixture in combusted, it is expelled out thru the exhaust and thus causing the white smoke.

well just remember dont just drop a new turbo. There are some other things that need to be done.

Turbo - 550 (EVO 16G)
Injectors 300.00 (550 CC)
SAFC 150 (used trader)
190 FP rewired 100 (Extreme PSI)

total :1150

optional : 02 dump 150 or good port job

1300

I agree with dsm4life. You can remove your intake hose and check for oil in the tube and turbo. If there's oil present, clean it off with a rag, reconnect the intake and drive around for an hour or so. Let your car cool down then check your intake hose again. If there's oil, then you may have a blown oil gasket in your turbo. This doesn't mean your turbo is bad, just mean you have a leaky gasket. At this time, you can also check for shaft play. If there's a lot of shaft play, then it's a good idea to replace the whole turbo. 16g(big or small) w/ install kit($200), t28, 14b, and many more turbos will be a huge upgrade compared to you oem t-25 turbo. Deciding which one to get depends on how serious you are and how much money you're willing to spend. But that's another topic.

yeah the picture shows
check the gasket first.
i'm loosing oil as well, but luckily not burning any...it's just spewing out of the oil return line (at the pan) and around the pan....btw no factory gasket for the oil pan? they used RTV? WTF? anyhew the oil is running out of the OLR and the pan...all over the transfer case, dp, cat, and undercarriage...messy as all hell, but it does give the james bond like smokescreen effect after i park it.

okay thanks so than it is my oil return line that is leaking so how much would it cost to replace this and should i get a stock one or go with something better so that kind of leak wont show up again. thanks for all the help. this is making things less expensive for me and soon i can enjoy my dsm

i like that one that is in the picture it looks way better than stock so i was wondering where can i get that one and is that one any good

it would prolly cost around $120 for a garage to fix it, you would have to make sure thats what it is, You can do it yourself, just do a search on it for some help,

wow thats expensive to fix and im pretty sure its there since when i jack it up and cleaned that pipe and i saw that oil was leaking there at the top slowly but when the motor is hot it drips a little faster

welcome to dealer prices
:thumbdown
replace oilpan gasket (rtv, not really a gasket) $350 and 3 hours of labor) not to hijack your thread, but when i find the engineer who thought it would be a good idea to burry the pan behind the t-case and exhaust pipe I'm going to wring his damn neck :p

but to fix the oil reutrn line gasket up at the turbo isn't all that hard, just pick up the gasket throw the car on some jackstands adn dig out the tools, if you run into trouble with it there are plenty of us around (and the vfaq, tech articles, etc) that would be happy to help walk you through it.

well my uncle owns his own body shop place he said he will put the stuff on for me just i have to buy the parts myself. what a relief guess i wont be spending much now :)
