I got a 92 Tsi Fwd and on my way home from work yesterday the engine heated up, so I shut it off in the middle of road to avoid engine damage, I had a huge cloud of smoke almost thought my car was on fire. Checked it out i noticed that coolant was gone but the overflow tank was full. Thought of the thermostat or a hose but today when I brought it in the garage let it run for like 1 min it didnt even get warm, I got under it and there was a massive oil leak pouring down right where the trans and the engine are bolted together by the lower motor mount. I looked at the oil pan and return line but it looked ok, this oil was coming from above somewhere and it was coming down good, also there was an odd smell. So Im thinking would it be the head gasket? would oil leak like that from a blown head gasket? would it be possible that a freeze plug blew out? I would appreciate any thoughts of where I can check, I need this solved out by the end of the weekend. Thanks to all for your time.
And yeah it can leak oil from the head gasket.
