I put a brand new mitsu mls gasket on with both my block and my head being resufaced. my block also has a copper o-ring . I torqued the head down to 85 lbs. I let the motor run for like 5 minutes, then I checked the oil. It looked kind of milky on the dipstick, so i pulled the head off bought a can of copper coat, sprayed both sides of the gasket, put the gasket back on then retorqued the head to 96 lbs. Started the car back up and drove it maybe two miles. I Then let it idle for a couple of minutes. The coolant temps got up to 210 degrees then i cut it off. I started the car up again today let it run for like 7-8 minutes then shut it off. I checked the oil again and it didn't look milky. So i took the oil fill cap off and looked at the bottom side of it and saw a thick white substance which is evidence of oil and water still mixing. Should I go back and replace that head gasket and try a cometic, or am I fine with that one? Because of the car overheating that one time should I also get the head resufaced? Also I have only torqued the head studs down twice. Do I still need to buy new ones? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you didnt have the head resurfaced, or checked for cracks?
If you installed a new gasket, and your car is still overheating, then theres something going with the head. I would strongly suggest having the head magnafluxed(check for cracks) before you waste more time and money swapping headgaskets.

Also, removing the head after installing a new headgasket, then reinstalling with the same gasket isn't the best idea.

I would flush the motor out real good. Anytime you mix oil and antifreeze it has to be flushed or there will be some left no matter what. Also are you sure it was your headgasket that was causing the problem. You could have a problem with your oil cooler or something else that is causing them to mix. If there isn't any in the oil but on the cap I would clean the cap off and check it again after a while just to be sure.
