OH CRAP I NEED HELP! please fuel pump/hat issue! real bad

since my stupid ass HAD to go and check were the fuel pump really was at, i went into the turnk of my VR4 galant and behold! it is exactly where you all said it would be in the trunk under a panel.

Well everythings going fine and i notice everything seems rusted and i just BARLEY moved a hose when ALL this fuel started pouring out. the metal line to ther right side of the fuel hat broke off RIGHT at the base of the hat so i cant even "kinda fix it". so my question is...

were do i find a new fuel hat and line leading out of it? im a bit lost on where to look. i googled DSM fuel hat and nothing came back and to top it off, this is my DD as my other car has a leaky radiator so i need to fix this ASAP. thanks
 
You would've been better off Googling "ass hat". There is no part called a "fuel hat".

What you are talking about is a fuel pump sender or sending unit. There are companies that sell repair lines for the sender when the line breaks off flush with the top of the sending unit. They look like this:

One side of the line is made small to fit down inside the broken line. You then solder the base of the repair line where it fits into the sender, making sure it is free of gasoline and fuel vapors.

It's not really a dealer item. The dealer will want to sell you a whole sending unit that will cost more than a month's rent or mortgage payment.

The one I pictured above is the same as one we sell at my workplace....it's made by FMSI, part number 3074, and costs $4.49. They are available in different lengths and tubing sizes.

You could probably find them at any GOOD parts store- I can't speak for Pep 'Tards and such.

You know the whole sending unit is just rusted to all hell, at first glance I still can't even see where the bolts are. At 155k on the unit, you guys think I should just replace the whole unit?
 
You definately should replace it, they break really easy. I once broke the return line off of a blazer I think it was like 2 something for the whole unit so i just got one of those copper lines for a gas range heated it up and plugged it in, perfect seal. The tank was full btw not the smartest of moves but it worked :) . make sure the tank is empty if you solder it, better off getting a whole new one imho

having a bit of trouble finding this item.....is there any other fuel sending units i could use from similar cars of a later year or no?
 
I'm in the middle of trying to fix my sending unit. FMSI will not sell direct to consumers. Ribet Auto Parts is supposed to be one of their distributors in the US but they don't seem to have anything but GM style fittings. Has anyone found this part for our cars and, if so, where?
