Ok so I know this has been covered on a few other threads, and i haven't really found any definite answers on this topic.

So I have the stainless steel braided oil feed line "upgrade" coming for my OFH to the turbo. I know that your suppose to either have a restrictor in it, or have a small enough line to restrict it. THAT being said, I do not think there is a restrictor on the line. No, all that oil pressure has not blown out the seals on my turbo, and it's been hooked up that way for at least 4k Miles. But I am getting some pretty horrible turbo lag.

Yes I do have one of the dreaded CX Racing 20g. Could this turbo lag be attributed to too much oil pressure? I have deleted all the vacuum line except the necessary ones. I have the Monster punishment racing FMIC. I have checked everywhere for possible boost leaks. I do have a Apexi AVCR boost controller and I have verified that my waste gate actuator is functioning properly.

Any input DSM Jedi?

I have honestly had good luck with the CX Racing 20g. It hasn't blown instantly like some people have reported. Yes I wouldn't doubt I'm probably not going to get the mileage out of it like I would with a real MHI turbo or a PTE or something like that.

At the cylinder head the oil pressure is regulated to 15psi, so I'm sure whatever I'm getting from the OFH is going to be more than that.

How much lag are you talking about? Not hitting full boost past 5k? Usually abnormal lag that I've encountered has been from a leak pre turbine. Meaning at the head flange or at the turbine flange. Have you checked for exhaust leaks?! The huge IC probably doesnt help though. I had a -4 stainless line on my ebay 16g back in the day with no restrictor, was fine.. No I dont personally think that "too much" pressure can make lag..

I get full boost right at 5k rpm. It will start building boost at around 4500. I know I won't ever get this thing to spool around 3500rpm that would be nice to. But that fmic kit came with this cheap little metal seal for the jpipe I think that might be the culprit of a small boost leak. I figure I would know right away if I had to much oil pressure cause it would blow those seals out. No exhaust leaks it's a brand new evo 3 manifold and gasket but I will double check.

Regarding your actual post, the restrictors are for the holsets, not for mitsu turbos. Unless this all changed since I had my 20g....I came off the OFH with the SS braided line, never had a problem.

My 20g doesn't spool until about the same as yours. It's a custom 20g in a TD05H using from Justin. Have you actually done a BLT? Just asking to make sure you can check it off. No throttle shaft leaks, timing on the money? Just a few things to make sure of. Stock cams? I would like mine to spool sooner to....maybe a shot of NO2 LOL. Keep us posted, maybe I can learn something too. I'm feeding from my OFH also, but have a small restrictor. Just a thought, is the drain line getting all of your oil back in the pan quickly, not holding any back which could effect it. Just trying to help. :thumb:

I appreciate the reply 1990TSIAWD. no I have not actually done a BLT but I took all the vacuum line crap u dont need and triple checked all my ic piping. Ill do a actual test later this week. Yes I have stock cams, base timing is good and mine uses the same TDO5 housing. Stock oil return too, I guess that might b the best spool I can get for now:idontknow: just wish I had some better bottom end power for when I catch a stop light with those "angry pirates" .... Near the end we were discussing oiling with MHI turbos. Im posting this here because I have read a couple posts now saying MHI turbos dont require regulation from the OFH. This is flat out wrong per MHI spec on their own turbos. Depending on your setup, oil pressure can rise upwards of 90 pounds (psi).

See this thread

I knew I saw this on FP's website somewhere.
http://store.forcedperformance.net/merchant2/graphics/subaru_oil/MHI_Oil_Specs.pdf

Near the end of the document under oil pressure, required pressure is 28.5-71 psi and recommended is 42.6-49.8 psi. So 28-71 psi required, recommended is 43-50.

Personally, because I just bought a new 20g, I will be running a restrictor just to be on the safe side. Its a fairly cheap piece of insurance compared to the cost of a rebuild/new turbo.

^ good post bro. What no one has really said yet is the fact that in the 1g with the 14b its feed from the head not the ofh, the head location has less pressure but plenty of volume to keep up with the turbo. The 2g's got a diff turbo Garrett t25 which had diff needs, lots of pressure so it was feed from the ofh. See what I'm getting at!! Just like above it is very important to have proper pressure when using a mhi and feeding it from the ofh. I wasn't able to run my 16g of the ofh, it was to much pressure and smoked real bad instantly! I changed the line to the head and did a few pulls to clear the exhaust out and it's been fine ever since!

Thats why when I was researching this before buying my 16g, I decided that if Mitsu did it this way and was willing to put warranties on it, it's the way i'm going to do it. Braided SS line to the head on my car.

Hey guys thanks for all the replies. I currently have this issue resolved. After doing a thorough check of everything last night, I noticed the waste gate actuator had the flap stuck partially open. The actuator didn't fit very good I had to put a small bend in the rod to clear the exhaust side. Drove it this morning was seeing full boost at 3400rpms now. Spools at 3100 rpm. Thanks for the replies tho guys. Not sure if that woulda shown up on a BLT
