This is kind of a dumb question but I was wondering how much of a difference does it make if I run my 95 gs on shit gas at 87 octane or the good stuff at 93 octane. I know on turbo cars the 93 is a must but should I really be concerned for my non turbo. Just thought I would ask the question because i have been using 87 octane for a while and wanted to switch to 93 but wasn't even sure if it was necessary?

Well, they say it's a must.

I get the '94 and the '95 up over the Sierra to Nevada in the summer on California crap regular. No trouble so far, and I don't take it easy in the mountains.

Long ago, the story was that mixing regular and super would add about a half- to a point of rating to the gas. I still kinda do it, even though I've never heard the stories backed up. I don't do additives.

i have a friend with a wrx and he dies by 93, i also use 93 because im a ass  hehe.

Has anyone ever used xeleyne? It is a paint thinner they sell at home depot, it is what they used to use in nascar but then they stopped. I saw a turbo car gain 20 wheel hp off a dyno when he was on and off xeylene. Of course thats turbo but id be happy getting half of that. Any info on this would be appreciated'

Thanks

I will die by 93 as well (even if I have a 1.8). Why run anything else? :thumb:

ya dog, im driving a 95' esi and im going to tell you that unless you have actual POWER it wont make a difference. Your not going to win more races or be faster on a stock 420a just cause you have 93 octain. Buy 89, put all the money you save in a jar, and buy a HRC kit. THEN run 93.

Peace

i used to be an avid 93 user but i ran it on all three grades that where available to me and found i actually got good performance and better mileage off 89.

I just have a regular ole' v6, no mods, and I went from 87-89 and I noticed a pretty distinct difference in pick up.

if u fill the tamk 4 times a month it is 8$ a month.8$ times 12(months)=
let say 100$ per year.I go 93 too, sometimes add some octane boosters

I am not so much concerned about money...I am just wondering if I will see better performance or a smotther ride or is it really not going to make a difference.

Ok here is the deal, i run 91 octane plus octane booster in my ride, why? well because it burns cleaner, my car pulls better, and get better mpg. my uncle works for texaco and he told me some of the additives in anything below 91 can put more wear on your car

In Germany do they have it at any old gas station? If so, you lucky S.O.B.

Most(if notAll)do...and Shell sells 99 as well as 100(not all Shell gasstations)

But i usually go across to Luxemberg(just race over the Border!!) to fill up(the Gas there is 35cents cheaper per LITER,so thats about 1,20 per gallon Less...Gas in Germany is about $4 per Gallon):thumb:

LOL..you guys suck, i need octane booster, the best i can get around here is 91

You guys will actually make more power on 87. From what I have seen, for every 2 octane, you drop (assuming the car doesn't have active knock feedback), you gain 1.2% wheel horsepower.

Consequently, if you run 91 instead of 87, you just lost 2.4% whp.

Just some food for thought.

seriously bud, on an n/t with minor bolt on mods, you dont need any higher than the cheap shit, ive used it since ive owned my n/t no performance difference or any crap like that, gas is gas

I need to run Premium, otherwise, my engine pings itself into submission.

$4 a gallon, in a country with a no-speed limit highway ? that's nuts!

Why would you put something in you car that does not burn as clean, why would you put something in your car that leaves more residue behind after the combustion. I run nothing but 91 plus booster. Its only couple cents more so why be a cheap ass. Put what you want in your car but my GS gets nothing but the best. just because its a non turbo why should I treat it any less

Who says it burns cleaner or leaves less residue?

I would expect the 87 to burn cleaner as it is easier to ignite.
