Okay, maybe I'm dumb. Probably not. But why won't this thing work? I have a 95 TSi AWD, the OBD connector, serial cable and Palm m105. When I try to run the program it just keeps telling me it's initializiing. The website says that it doesn't work with some cables. Which ones? Am I skipping a step? Should I just try to run Palm N Stein or something? What about the OS? I'm running OS3.5 I think. How can I trouble shoot this? This sucks. :notgood:

Is the name of the program "OBD gauge logger". I am not familiar with that program, but are you sure it's not just for OBD and not OBD-II.

Remember, although OBD-II was not mandated until 1996, Mitsubishi adopted the standard a year earlier in 1995. So you are OBD-II and not OBD-I.

Here's the link. It came with my 2G logger cable connection. It's an OBD-II on one end and Serial connection on the other for the HotSync cable.

I don't see anything on that page that indicates it will work with OBD-II. I do see some links to OBD-II cables / connections, but it looks like that software will only work with OBD-I and not OBD-II.

I would go with Wufei's suggestion and try another program unless someone can confirm that your program will work with OBD-II. :thumb:

Thanks for the clairification. :thumb:

I was looking at the link posted and it didn't seem to say anything about OBD-II.

I just tried Palm N' Stein and it won't connect either. The directions say that the selected item will be in bold. When I try to select OBD-II it doesn't do anything, not even bold. The 1G selection stays bold and the logger does nothing. I have used this same Palm m105 to log on my 1G with MMCD. The HotSync cable does work when connecting to a computer. I have a spare HotSync cable that does not work on the computer and does not work in my car. I have pretty much ruled out Software and my Palm Pilot. The only other explanations can be the HotSync cable not working with the OBD-II connector, or the connector itself. I had lots of problems getting the connector from a list member. I'm not pointing fingers, but things aren't looking good. I'll try to source another HotSync cable and try that. Wish me luck.

allow me to restate: what setting do you have it on? only 1 setting will work for our cars. check under preferences and then get back to me. impossible for me to help you otherwise

The Preferences are default at English-Show Both-Metric-All Sensors-Line-ELM

I looked at switching the last one to Multiplex and looked at the menues. However, I have no idea what all that means. All I'm using for a connection is the OBD-II connector from the recomended website and the Hotsync cable that came with my Palm m105. The Hotsyn cable is a little different than most. It has the cradle that the Palm sits into. It doesn't have any identifying marks or serial numbers, so that doesn't really help anyone to figure out if it's incompatible. Should I try messing around with the Interface menu? If so, has anyone used the Multiplex Interface? (whatever that means) I just want to do some simple logging. I never had any issues like this with my 1G and MMCD. Any advice would help.

I messed around with the Connection settings in OBD Logger last night a little. I changed the ELM to Multiplex since that is the type of connection I'm using. I think. It didn't do anything, so I started messing around with the other preferences in there like the ISO and whatever was on the bottom list. Nothing still. I changed the first preference which only has 19000 and 900 or something. Still nothing. The only one I didn't mess with was the Address colum since there seems to be over 100 variations. I'm still at a loss here. I looked at Palm N Stein a little more, but it doesn't do anything. The 1G connection option is the only thing bold and it doesn't do anything at all. I can check mark the OBD-II option, but it doesn't do anything after that. What the hell! Anyone please chime in here.

i want to help you but i lost my palm 3 charger and my palm is dead right now.. i know you have to have it on elm, and NOT multiplex and i believe there is another setting that has to be on 100. i will let you know once i find my charger. but rest assured, that obd gauge does work on obd 2 computers!

I've tried the Multiplex and ISO options. Unless I did something else wrong, that should have worked. I'll try again. Here is an image of my Multiplex adaptor. Should be the right one. The numbers don't mean much to me. The Multiplex website says that some cables don't work with it. That's the only thing I can think of that is messing things up unless the connector itself is bad. I'll keep trying, but I don't know what else I can do. I haven't heard back from the board member that sold me the unit, but I'll see what he says.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. I've tried to run Palm N Stein, and unless I don't know how to use that either, then it's either my Hotsync cable or my OBD connector. Palm N Stein keeps trying to connect, but reads as "error: no rev" or something like that. It says the same thing when I try to run it without connecting it. I have an extra Hotsync cable, as I stated before, that does not Hotsync on a PC with my Palm m105. How will I know what cables will work, so I can trouble shoot the connector? I know Multiplex says that their units will not work with some Hotsync cables. Any idea which ones? This is getting to be rediculously frustrating.

Who did you get the adaptor from??? because I have the exact same one and it is doing the exact same thing.

Finally got my OBD connector for my Palm from Multiplex. Now everything works, although I haven't quite figured out Palm N Stein. I've only used MMCD which was VERY easy to use. I can't seem to get OBD Gauge to work. Not sure if I played with the menus too much and it won't connect. It seems like a better program. Anyone know how to use it? I've set the Interface as Multiplex. Baud as 19200. Address as 25 and Protocol as ISO. I know my connector works, so now it's not hardware. By the way, don't bother buying products from "dmc67". :notgood: Not only did he sell me the wrong product, but knew about it. He told me he had other complaints, but couldn't afford to give refunds. Anyways, I hope to learn how to use this so I can at least shut off my CEL.

ps. I also got some Megan Racing gauges. They look GREAT :thumb: but don't fit into the gauge cluster bezel. They are way too deep. If you want to put them somewhere else, do it. They're awesome!
