o2 mounted wastegate

Hey guys I did a little searching on this and kind of got the idea but not sure exactly. I got a bullseye 50trim internally gated running a full apexi exhaust with no cat. Question is, I'm getting the impression internal gates aren't so great in this situation.. I also have the FP Race manifold so I really don't want to have to weld a wastegate on that. If I was to run an o2 sensor housing wastegate what exactly do I do to the turbo? Is it hard to remove the flapper? And when the flappers removed then what? Just leave it open like that? Newb questions sorry..

You got it Just remove the wastegate flapper very easy.
Then just leave it open problem solved.
You will love the external gate.

thanks, does it matter if the dump tube is recirculated into the o2 housing or not? I don't want my car to sound like a diesel truck but if the dump tube makes it sound better that'd be cool?

It doesnt matter at all.
I have mine dumped off my manifold and it sounds sick at WOT.
It doesnt sound like a diesel truck I would compare it to more muscle car.
It just depends on your style. It is illegal to dump I believe but around here they dont check for that HAHAHA becuase they prob. dont know what that is. I dont think you would have a prob. either
Let me know how that setup works out. Im getting a tial 44mm wastegate o2 housing soon and putting on a PTE 5031E 50 Trim and im picking up the FP manifold from the group buy so I would be interested in your results. Have fun with it

Yeah I can't wait to install my 3150!!! My friend has an atmosphere dumped from his external WG. It sounds great at WOT!!

not true. most people have more problems with creep going 02 external gate atmospheric dump than they do external/recirculating. Has to do with the helix coming off the turbo. Bypassed air re-enters the helix on a recirculating style. Causes dispruption of the airflow. Causes back pressure on the helix/turbine. This disruption or back pressure on the turbine allows the gate to control turbine speed/boost better. This is exactly why PTE uses divided housings. It causes back pressure to the helix. This is why it helps. On an 02 mounted gate dumped to atmosphere there is no disruption of helix flow. Sure its good for flow/power but internal wastegates and small external gates sometimes have problems controlling boost on larger sized turbos because the helix is flowing so well the gate cannot keep up with enough evacuation to stabilize turbine speed/boost pressure.

In my experience if you are going to dump to the atmosphere I would reccomend mounted off the manifold and atleast a 40MM+ with turbos 50 trim and larger.
