hey, newbie posting a question -

ok, so i bought my talon a few months ago and I'm still getting used to it and its quirks. i have an auto box, when using the button on the shifter to turn the O/D off, the car wil not rev past the 4500 RPM mark. while driving W/O the button the car will rev past the 4500 mark, obviously, but when the button is switched on it wont. i was wondering if this was maybe a "safety" thing or just a little quirk.
i cant seem to find anything on this, so i'm wondering if anyone knows anything about it.....
:talon:

That is very odd. Can't say I've heard of that, but then again, I've never owned an automatic DSM...

yeah the only reason i found it is becuase i used it when climbing a hill and when it got to 4500 it stayed there. :talon: :talon:

That doesn't seem right????
In other words,, when the O/d is off it will not go above 4500 rpm in driving??

Will it just shift up at this point or stay there at 4500rpm. I know this is not normal at all in 2g auto and probaly not in the world of 1gs either..

after hitting the button it will stay in third until the button is hit again, but while the O/D-off button is turned on, the car will not rev past 4500. it just stays at that engine speed. nothing faster.

ok... this is too confusing. forget about the damn button. when you look on the dash, when the O/D off light comes on can you go pass 45rpm? or is it the other way arround. be specific please.

when the "O/D off" light is on, the engine will not rev past 4500.
also, the power/economy swith being in either mode does not affect it, it still stays at 4500. :talon:

sounds like something is limiting your supplying of fuel/air. i really don't know. that's real ####ed up!. perhaps someone else could answer this.

sounds like tranny to me. I've heard of OD on/off probelms like this before and I'll see if I can find you a link.

I've heard of other people who have tranny shifting probelms w/ the od off. Then they put the od on and its not effected. Could be the other way around but you get the point. I'm not sure why one would be different from the other since they still use the same set of gears and all. I wanna say something to do w/ endclutches and/or the stress put on the tranny shifting into the OD gear w/ low speed driving but I shouldn't guess. I know this has been discussed either on these forums or the DSM automatic webpage. I'll see if i run acoss a link

When it goes to 4500, does it top out like "waaaaaaaaaaaa" or does it act like a rev limiter and bounce?

it does not bounce like a rev limiter, just stays at the constant 4500 until you either let off the gas or turn the "O/D off" button back of and it shifts into 4th.
