NX N-ter cooler chiller with HOBBS

I am not a fan of intercooler sprayers at all. Especially sprayers that spray a crygenic gas onto hot metal. Not only is it not very effective, but IT WILL CRACK YOUR INTERCOOLER. There is no if, but "how many cycles until failure". Maybe 20, 30, 40. I would invest in a good water injection kit that actually helps your car instead of destroy it :).

Have I put an intercooler sprayer on my car and had my IC crack?
no.

But I have seen other heat exchangers crack under similar conditions. Give these conditions to any engineer (including myself) and they will tell you that this creates a thermal unstability. This means the aluminum will be expanding in 1 spot from the hot intake charge, and contracting a few millimeters away from the CO2 or Nitrous. Just a matter of time before it fails.

I can see your reasoning. I undestand the expanding and contracting elements of metal as it is heated and cooled. I would like to know if anyone has had this happen to them. Twitch says he uses his daily and has had good results. It has also been dyno proven to gain 20 - 25 hp with the cooler air intake charges. How bout some more feed back form other IC sprayer users. You are the first to speak up on the bad points of a sprayer. I appreciate the input.

I have used my sprayer a lot and I mean a lot everyday. I get the co2 for free so I spray away. There is no sign at all of any damage to the intercooler. The fins are still as strong as they used to be. I could not tell you the amount of c02 that I have sprayed onto my intercooler.

You guys are brave! I don't think that I would want nitrous spraying on an fmic, going thru my radiator right over my red hot turbo. I can see the C02 setup, but nitrous is way expensive to refill compared to C02, and safer. I just don't like the idea of an oxidizer flowing freely over the exhaust housing on my turbo. Also, you had better check with the track you run at to see if they will even allow it before you invest that kind of money into it. Running C02 or even R134a refrigerant seems saner. I'd hate to see someone turn into a flaming ball at the end of the 1/4 mile from one of these. Yes, the amount of air flowing over the radiator should disperse the nitrous, and on an smic, it would probably be safe, but expensive.
Personally, I run a toyota or a jdm sti water to air intercooler where the battery box was and pipe it straight to the intake manny, with a pump and ice water reservior in the hatch. That assists the fmic, and the flow restriction is minimal for the temp drop you get at the outlet.

wh3rd!!! Big ball of flames??? When my sprayer setup is complete, I'll have a total of 110 bux in it. And who said they were spraying n2o on the IC, we are all talking about spraying co2, it's a sh!t load cheaper.
