got a 95 tsi and it i mostly stock but i finally got it running today and it starts knocking at around two grand and just gets worse as you go i think it may be one of the rod bearings not sure anyone had any similar problems car has around 100k on it and the previous owner had a reputable shop put new rods and bearings in it so i dont no any help would be greatly appreciated thnx!

Why were the new rods and bearings put in? If the motor had spun a bearing and they just put new rods and bearings in without machining or replacing the crank, that is most likely the reason it is knocking now.

Drop the pan and check for any plan, I would stop running it now before you render that crank unusable.

i dont know why they replaced them to begin with the previous owner never told me why that is probably the reason though and just to let u no i have only started it up twice to hear the noise but in the hanes manual it says u have to take out the transfercase to get to the oilpan is that true and if so how hard is it to do ? thnx
