I got an infinity headunit from somone off of dsmtalk forum, and i plug everything in, every port on the back of the CD player is filled, and the cd player works but the radio i get nothing but static, i tune it into stations i know exist and nothing. I used to have an aftermarket headunit in it and the radio worked then, well b4 it was stolen. Any ideas, Please help.

Yup small grey wire, and there is a larger black wire plugged into the back. they are both what looks like an antenna wire, single lead w/ potruding center. i donno which one is the antenna.

and you've tested the radio using each wire respectively? The larger black wire would more than likely be the antenna wire.

what do u mean both respectively, they both go into the back of the unit , they are different sized and both have their own plug ins.

also, another option would be to get a universal antenna to replace your current antenna (im assuming it's power antenna).. they normally come included with a wire as well, so you could run and route it straight to the HU

I have a non-power antenna, maybe if i get a chance im gonna have to ohm out the antenna wire to make sure its not cut, i was just wondering if anyone ever had this problem w/ the HU maybe a bad HU?

You need the DIN cable that goes to the amp under the passenger seat, and the plug under the carpet there has to be plugged into the amp. Oh, and you need the security code to unlock the radio.

And the amp is wired up as well?
The two antenna leads are for the "Diversity Antenna". The fat one is the normal wire antenna on the corner of the car, the second is the extra, non-defroster wires in the hatch glass.

The amp is wired up properly, all the speakers work and wantnot when i put a cd in. just static when i put it on radio. i mean unless the antenna goes through the amp. I kinda trased em down the drivers floorboard and they seem intact and i took the panel off where the antenna is in the back and its connected. Think a bad HU?

Well today i went out and bought an aftermarket radio and installed it, works like a dream, i get nice clear radio stations and everything, im gonna have a few words for the guy that sold me the radio claiming it to be in Mint condition

My Infinity headunit did the same thing.... replaced it with an Alpine and no more problem.

Make sure to run a new wire to your headunit for power (the yellow one), fused, from the battery. I think I used 8 or 10 gauge wire for it.

Just qurious why run a seperate power? if for a fuse, why not put an inline fuse on the original power wire on the harness, or just rely on the fuse on the CD player?

Oh because most new headunits require a bit more juice up front than the factory infinity did since the infinity powered the speakers with an external amp and replacement head units have built in amps. Check your manual to see what it says... my Alpine manual said to do it. I thought "eh, it will be fine." until I realized the louder I turned up my head unit, the more the lights on the display flickered, and eventually it would just shut off from lack of juice. Who made the new one? Definately check the manual to see what it says, but I bet it tells you to make sure the yellow wire is of a certain gauge, or if you have the problems I was having, you'll know why.

Cool thanks for the tip man, ill keep it in mine, i havent had a chance to really test it out i just installed it today and thats pretty much it. Heres a picture of it mounted up and turbo timer under it, turned out pretty good, some may think the timer is to close under the unit but i was worried if i went any lower that filler panel would be to fragile and break in half and it wouldnt fit nice and snug.
