What's up I'm brand new to the dsm life and I have a problem. Drove 4 hours yesterday to buy a 1997 eclipse gst and during the test drive and the half hour of getting used to it before getting on the highway it ran perfect. I accidentally stalled it in reverse and ever since that the car bogged really bad and would shut off when not giving it gas. Today I started it up and it ran decent at low rpms but bogged then shut off after getting to higher rpms. The guy before me said that the air/fuel ratio needs to be fixed but he never told me that would happen all he told me about was idle going up and down and very slight bogging between 5-7k rpms but I was told I could put that on the dyno and get it diagnosed. Now I think it's gonna be a little more complicated. I have an older apexI super airflow converter (safcll) and I was told that can be used to change the air/fuel ratio. Seems like its just getting to much fuel pushed through. Any ideas? I have no idea how to use the safc though...anyone in the Philadelphia area willing to take a look? Thanks guys

Call me crazy, but this sounds like a clogged fuel filter. Especially since it only bogs/chugs/dies in the top end.

Maybe you jarred something loose in the tank and it made its way to the fuel filter. Change it. It's cheap, easy and there's no doubt in my mind that it probably needs done anyway.

Also, if it DOES turn out to be a matter of too much fuel (Which I seriously doubt) Then i'd check;

1)Spark plug health and heat range (Could have dead plugs or super cold plugs)

2)Spark plug wires. (This is a HUGE thing that people rarely check, new wires will almost ALWAYS help something)

3)And if you still have a problem, you could have an injector stuck open, or your Fuel Pressure could be too high (Assuming you have an adjustable one) remember that the ECU raises fuel pressure according to boost, so if yours is turned up to compensate for something, its effectively doubling that number exponentially under boost..

It's had some mods 15k on a rebuilt motor 16g turbo fmic cai striker kit maf translator and some other mods I'm not sure about injectors. And I think too much fuel because its putting out black smoke

Did you solved the issue? How much boost are you seeing with that 16g? If its more than 14-15psi you probably have upgraded injectors and now tuning device. Any CEL? Are you using a GM MAF? If so where is it locate before or after turbo? Are you recirculating the BOV? Sorry for so many questions.

Sounds like the engine is not receiving enough fuel at higher RPM . Check your fuel filter to see it's clogged up or check out your fuel regulator. If not, check into the fuel injectors for any blockage.
