Noisy head

So... It goes like this... Upon acceleration I am getting a loud chatter from right by my Intake cam gear/bearing cap only right by the cam gear. Upon Idle every thing sounds normal, but over 2500rpm it gets real noisy. Also my belt it sitting off center towards the valve cover, but when you accelerate it centers up... I’m Pretty stumped.

May check that the cam gear is still tightly fastened, and maybe the front cap. Maybe also a bad timing idler bearing, or loose bolt?

its either the end bearing cap or the cam gear. either way get it fixed before u damage the head.

Something inline with your timing belt is loose, or bent. You've already identified what the chatter could be, but for your belt to walk is probably caused from a bad tensioner pulley. There are two different models of tensioners, one is manual the other hydraulic. I would take some time and see what is making your belt move. Odds are that it is what caused your problem.

Unless your cam gear is just shot. You could have an egged out cam gear, or rounded cam shaft end.

My money is on a loose cam cap, or some valve clatter.

Whatever it is, I would not drive it until you get it figured and sorted out.

Everything that has been mentioned so far is a terminal problem, and if it has not already, will cause serious problems is left unchecked.

Get on it, and let us know how it goes.

I'd look for an out of taper camshaft or cam caps/cradles.

Took off my valve cover today to take a look... one bolt on the bearing cap was backed out.. re torqued it.. seems to be fine.. the car was never drove with this problem so I am hoping every thing is ok...

That's good that you might have found the problem. I'd just drive it around slowly and carefully to make sure there's no residual problems.

Now the question is, why and how did the bolt back out?

you might have forgot it when doing head work. either that or give it some threadlock.

I gave it some treadlock... I dont know how I would have missed it, when all the bolt are torqued in a sequence, and all the others were still good. I am only human tho. It seems to be running good. I let it run for a good 20 min, then drove it around the block, removed the valve cover and checked over it all again. I did notice that the belt walk was gone.. So maybe that was from play in the cam. Hopefuly nothing got damaged.
