Alright guys, my buddy just got a 1996 eclipse gst. It was bought not running with no info on the last time it ran. It cranks over fine but will not start. Compression was low. Did all new timing and head gasket. Timing is perfect and compressions good.
Found I had no spark on cylinders 1&4. replaced the following with known working components. Ignighter, coil pack, crank sensor, cam sensor, fuel relay, fuel resistor and mpi. Still no spark at coil pack. Still not running. Also replaced ecu with working unit.
Sorry its so long but giving all the info. Any ideas?

When you switched the ECU did you check the wires make sure none are broke or there is any corrosion on the harness?

You say no spark at coil pack...do you mean no spark at the other end of the wire FROM the coil pack or are you testing AT the coil pack somehow?

To me seeing as you changed everything with known good components, I'd say check your plug wires :) I don't see if you changed them or not...

Leave the wire in, remove the spark plug from 1, leave the plug in the wire, crank the motor. Repeat for cylinder 4. This way you ensure proper connections and eliminate the "maybe".

I could be wrong here but I'm under the understanding that there must be a "ground" condition along the wire for the spark to occur. If the wire is broken along the path to the plug, I would expect you wouldn't see spark at the coil pack.

I'd still try new wires.

its possible you couldve swapped the coil pack and it went bad again. one of those coil packs provide spark for cyl 1&4 and the other pack is for 2&3, if your getting spark at 2&3 but not 1&4, i think it would be the coil pack. do what the user above said and check for spark thoroughly, and if you get spark, check your ect sensor and make sure its working correctly.

Install a 1g CAS and call it a day, my 95 almost filed for domestic disturbance because she refused to start but before I put my wife beater on someone mentioned a 1g CAS. Very easy install RRE has the how to harness. The whole seperate crank and cam angle sensor deal will piss you off to no avail so just eliminate it with a 1G CAS.
