So.. it's been a super long time since I was last active here and I'm back to seek advice. Lots of drama and a super long story short, I wound up entrusting a family friend to rebuild my engine. 7 months later, of all the parts I bought, he "only installed the parts that needed to be installed".. being new belts and water pump. WTF (I bought over $2k in forged internals) The car still runs like crap, the belts start to scream like super loud.. the car starts to overheat and on my way home the power steering went out. since parking the car, it wont seem to start, the batt is weak and wont hold a charge (its a fairly new Optima Red Top) :sosad: . I would have done this myself but I dont have tools since moving here and I dont intend on buying tools because I'm moving back home to California soon. So now I'm debating on several things.. going to a local shop (Medlerz) and entrusting them with an overhaul (upon requesting a quote by phone will cost about $1,950).. or buying a stage 2 head and block from SIM Racing on Ebay(before shipping, if they ship to Guam costs $3,899) (still going to Medlerz to have them install the engine.. haven't asked how much this will cost and if they can even do this) either way I still have to buy a new Oil pan, Valve cover, Oil filter housing, intake or exhaust manifolds, thermostat housing, Cam angle sensor, Crank angle sensor, Knock sensor, Misc timing gears and plates. or can i just re-use the old parts?
Is there anyone out there that can help me or advise me? Is there anything I'm missing? Money's tight, but I still want a quality job done. I'm scared to trust shops here in Guam because NOBODY dyno tunes or specializes in high-performance builds :notgood: ..yet i find that ALL the shops are more than willing to dive into my car when they see the turbo :ohdamn:

Yea if I were you I would learn real quick and do it yourself, but you CAN use the old thermostat housing, and valve cover and pans + all the sensors. Just make sure nothing is contaminated and the Oil pump in spec. I don't know what quality is like out there but you get what you pay for. If you can get a motor built by someone (as you mentioned SIM) that knows what the hell they are doing with these motors, I think you are better off going that route IMHO. Trust those guys out there with as little as possible.

yea.. apparently there's only ONE machine shop on island.. and this it really all i need done: (copy&pasted from a msg to the shop i sent on facebook)

for the block:
Hot tanked and inspected, Bored to spec, Torque plate honed, Mating surface decked, Manley platinum series, Eagle forged pistons (i have these.. standard size), Manley H beam forged rods (i have these), ACL racing bearings (i have these), OEM crank(micro-polished), freeze Plugs i have these), Painted
for the head:
CBN deck, Hot tanked and checked for cracks, SS Race Valves (i have these), Viton valve stem seals (i have these), Beehive valve spring set, new valve guides (i have these), Painted
i know i'll be needing these:
Oil pan, Valve cover (hot tanked and painted) , Oil filter housing, Intake and Exhaust manifolds, Thermostat housing, Oil dipstick tube, Cam angle sensor, Crank angle sensor, Knock sensor, Misc timing gears and plates, gasket set ( i have this)
are there any parts i can just re-use?
I do have ECM Link v3 Lite installed.. so adding a wideband is being considered. Ultimately this is a DD/road race build.
i have poly bushing, struts and springs that need to be installed too...

I'd try the main land first, Australia has a huge car scene so talk to some of them. Find out where the good shops are (theres got to be a handful as there is a lot of serious cars there). I just think thats your best bet, ya you could buy from the good ol USA but you dont know how long it'll take to recieve said parts and what shape they'll be in when they finally reach you. Do some research first then make your decision as you dont want another pricey headache.
Have you heard of Mighty Car Mods (mcm)? They have their own website with a rather vibrant forum, I suggest you start there as their main land Australia. You'll find a very wide car base of people there.

Hope this is of some help, best of luck to you and keep us posted with what you find.

State/Country/Province selection lacks United States, unless I missed it and wasn't paying attention. I'm currently in Merizo, Guam, USA (a trust territory of USA). I just put Australia because its the same time zone (+10) Car scene is huge here too.. but everything's special ordered and shop services are VERY limited ..so that means lots of "ghetto rigged" rides :(
