No power when key on

Ok, so I went to DMV to register my bike, come out and my car dies.

As I turn the key all power and lights turn off. Last time this happened a ground came off. My ground is their, my terminal was dirty. I'm in a parking lot with a o Riley's here ran over got a basic wrench kit sand paper Coke a cola and water to clean them up.

Now when I turn my key nothing, no lights. I am about to go buy a DMM as I'm not at home and canceled my AAA as my car has been near perfect. Will remove my battery and have them test it first I guess.

Wierd thing is before when I turn the key my lights would eventually come back back in, you hear the relay click and my radio flashes. Now it's like it doesn't restart itself. Could my battery be dead? I hope it's that simple. I am going to go buy and DMM (they don't rent one) and come back to play some more. Any point in the right direction will be nice.

Dam I wish it happened at home. I would be ok with tools and everything hahahahahahaha dam DSM. Still love her

So I got a DMM and tested power, 12.3v at battery, and fuse, did not pull apart my steering column yet removed the battery and gana walk that over and have it tested. Wish me luck that's all it is

Well battery needed a charge but is good. I have a feeling this is not my problem. What can I check with my battery out to start rolling things out? Thanks guys if I get any help. I am googling a lot also as I sit here

It's either a dead battery or a bad ground.

I'm at bar now eating pizza and drinkin a beer. It needed a charge but not bad. So I'm hoping that's it. I did t think anything else would do that as iv had this issue before and it's a newer battery, new terminal, and all newly connected grounds. didn't think it was dead but just low charge, thanks buddy

You could pull the cam she'll around the steering column and test at your ign switch wire to make sure you have 12v. If nothing is lighting up or turning on at all inside you've got a bad ign switch or bad wire/fuse going to the switch.

Well got the battery charged, lights where bright, I turn the key and all dies again. Now door jar light is really dim, only me door lit comes on. I will just go buy a new battery and new terminals as I found one of my new ones are cracked. I will check that if my new battery fails to start. I have a feeling my battery just shi*ed out on me. It may be older then I thought it was.

Replace with a new battery, all new terminals few new grounds, and new positive wire, electrical jelly on all connections. We got it started. 14.7v with it running, my 4 year old bosh alt is doing its job. 4 year old battery and termials bad. It was raining the whole time, a lot of frustration and a beer cigarette pizza and fries I got it home.

Glad you got it running , only thing that concerns me is that 14.7 volt charge from the alternator, are you boiling your battery?
Usually that's high

Thanks, isn't 14v when charging is right. I don't know how .7 got their. Numbers don't auto correct, but I'm on an ipad. Maybe I typed it in without noticing but I'm sure it was 14v maybe 14.2

I will certainly check again tomorrow as you got me second guessing myself now.

Yeah mines at 14.0-14.3 at idle

Just 14.7 was pretty high so I thought I'd say something

Output at my alternator is 14.2v - 14.3v at idle as well. You might have a voltage regulator issue on your hands causing premature battery failure due to overcharging.

I appreciate the info I don't think it is 14.7 as stated before. I may have typed it in wrong, as stated.my battery was 5 years old so it wasn't premature, I just didn't know it was that old. I will double check, as I was down and out as the bar I went to gave me food poisoning that sent me to the hospital I feel a ton better and will double check my reading at some point today.
