I checked the fuses and replaced them, checked the connections to the lighter itself and they looked fine. There was only 2 wires connected to it: a black wire, and a blue wire. The other one is for the light so it doesn't matter. But there is a loose yellow wire that looks like a ground or something thats just hanging there under neath the radio. Would a new socket solve the problem or is the mystery yellow wire the answer, or what?

Not sure about your problem but i thought a cool idea for the cig lighter would be to rig it up to the ignition so that it has to be pressed down to start the car(still using the keys though) just as maybe a cool security feature. Not sure if this is possible but it seems like you could just wire it into the ignition to create the closed loop when its pressed down. Good luck though!

not to offend anyone, for non smokers, cigarette lighters arent needed for anything in the car, besides it just stinks up a car

Go to Ace Hardware and buy a $3.00 dollar power tester. Get in your car, turn the key over, find a good ground, connect the alligator clip to it, and poke the other wire with the pointer type deal thing. If the light comes on, you have power to it. No light means there is a busted connection elsewhere, forcing an engine rebuild to fix it. I mean, some re-wiring to do.

O yeah? So, how DO you power your laptop for the GPS?

Uh, yellow isn't used for a ground wire. Anyplace.

Hey, I have the same problem. My ring that lights up around it is still on, but no power to the lighter itself. I used it to run my radar detector. Would really like to get it working again, if anyone knows anything please let me know. Or if there is anyway I can get power to my radar detectpr other than that way.
Thanks

I forgot about this thread so long ago, but the problem was that some tard switched the wires. I connected the correct ones and it works fine now.

Yeah, I haven't been on this forum for about a year or so because I was busy with college and working. Just thought I'd bring to light thats it's sometimes just a simple thing :thumb:
