1992 tsi awd. i started the car, put it in reverse and let the clutch out and the car stalled. i tried to restart it and there was no power when the key is in the on postion, the headlights and brake lights work. i checked the fuses and they all look ok. is there a MPI relay anyplace? only way to work and the tools i have are limited because im not at work.

 tough one. Sounds like the ignition is fried. See if you can get a test light and check to see if there is current coming from your Key cylinder from the steering wheel when the key is turned. Thats my best bet.

Use a test light to check the wires as you turn the key. If you need the colors I can get from work tomorrow if needed. If your not getting power there check under the hood for the fuses. Also check the main battery fuses. most ingitions have two main powers leads going in. one ignition one acc. If there is power there check the relays.... Let me know what happens

If it isn't cranking, check your starter post with a test light. If it's hot, check the "little" post next to it while someone is cranking. It should be hot. If not, then get a schematic and trace it back. You have fuses and fuse links to contend with. Use a test light or multimeter and pull some tests and post where you tested and with what results.

Don't just look at fuses, test them. I have pulled my hair out more than once just looking at fuses, knowing they looked good. Only to test and find that they were burned very discreetly.

Let us know.

Good Luck

i had a similar thing to this where i had my car idling to cool off*homeran turbo timer* and all the sudden i hear a super loud squeek and a squeil like something jamed and it killed itself, ohh and it had some very loud knocking when it happend. A Few moments later cause of neveriousness or breakage i started it bak up and took like 30 seconds to catch spark and run, then i guess it was perfectly fine. So all i can say is that i was lucky nothing broke from what i know of. you should check out your engine internals and make sure nothing is locked up or that.

1st off thanks for the help with ideas. it turned out to the cable on the starter sol. was bad. i changed the main power wire and some of the other wires near the battery. 8 years of sitting still f*%#ed things up. thanks for the help again.
