Hey I need some help with a question that is bugging me.
I'm going to get my new motor tuned on Saturday and I'm wanting to know would it be ok to run nitrous during the tune on a motor that has maybe 300 miles on it? Is there a certain amount of break in period before I should start using the nitrous or will it be no different then lets say if the motor has several thousands miles on it?
Also I'm worried about my transmission giving out on me on the dyno because it's still a stock transmission and I'm looking for about 400 numbers.

Mods in my profile.

Thanks
Bryce

I have always beat the hell out of some newly built engines that I have built. Works everytime.

Your engine should be broken in by now if you did it the right way. You only need a few miles to brake it in with the mototune usa procedure. I used the same procedure when I built my motor and put on about 4600 miles on it so far. The goal is to seat the rings as quickly as possible.

I first started the motor and kept it at about 2k rpm for 2min. or so while my buddy checked for leaks. Shut if off and changed the oil/filter. Drove it easy about 5 miles or so to fill up with gas to the store. Went back to the shop and changed the oil/filter and checked for leaks again. Everything was fine so I headed out and did 2 pulls at 25% throttle to about 6k rpm and let it come back down in gear and didn't touch the brakes. Then I did 2 more pulls at 50% throttle to about 6.5k rpm followed by 2 more pulls at 75% throttle all the way to 7k rpm. Last two pulls were at 100% throttle all the way to 7.5k rpm and I always let it rev down in gear without touching the brakes. Then I headed back to the shop and changed the oil/filter for the last time and started driving it.

Bingo! By 300 miles all of the seating, or glazing i suspect, has been done. If within the first few miles of operation you do not place enough force on the cylinder walls with the rings they will glaze the cylinder wall and no further sealing will occour. People that baby their engines for 1,000 miles are either misinformed or lack confidence in their build. If you baby it for 1,000 miles and floor it and it breaks it was built wrong, and would have broke at 1 mile. I would run the engine on the dyno with whatever you are going to be running on the engine. No one i know that races drives their car for hundreds of miles on the street before running it down the strip. Tell John Force he's getting poor ring seal as he runs 4's.
