I am kind of new to the DSM scene. After doing a bunch of handling/suspension and brake work to my step dads talon he decided to give it to me. I have always loved the car and want to get it back on the streets. Its been garage kept and has a few engine performance upgrades. It blew up a week later (it had sat for three years, I saw it coming). I am in the process of rebuilding the engine for my 90' eagle talon Tsi and was wondering if i should spring for the high volume oil pump? the stock on is in good condition, the engine only had 100k on it before it threw a belt on the balancing shaft and I just decided to do a full rebuild while I still had access to an engine shop and friends that would do the machine work for free. How well should the original hold up? I am just using it for street applications and maybe the strip a few times for fun. Also, I am seeing pistons for like 8.3:1 and 9:1 CR I am not quite sure what the stock ratio is and if its the former, would bumping it up would cause problems? I'd rather ask before doing a clearance check after buying the parts LOL. And... has anyone bought the pacesetter headers? they are cheap but I am wondering if its not worth it to pay extra? Ive got two sets of OEM manifolds i magnafluxed but both are cracked and im not going to pin em LOL. I am planning on putting eagle H-beam rods and weisco pistons in there... I'm looking for 400hp anyone have an extra engine management system out there... DSMlink perhaps? Thanks in advance! After driving it I want more DSMs'! LOL.

You have several very valid questions. This link should help you immensely. Good luck with the build!

The compression either way will be fine. The forged internal are a good choice since you will want more power later.:) DSMlink is a great option and you should go to the website and read more on its capabilities. The stock oil pump is fine but if you are getting a good deal on a high flow unit, then go with it. good luck with your build.

Stock Compression Ratio on a 6 bolt engine is 7.8:1.

8.3:1 is gonna be a good bet for your rebuild.

You could also get 2g pistons (8.5:1) and have them hung on 1g rods which requires a bit of machining.

DSMLink is a very strong tool for tuning and there are a lot of people out there with experience with it. It is very popular.

I am not sure about the pacesetter header. If your in a turbo AWD just grab a 2g exhaust mani offa a junkyard or someone in the classifieds and port it. That would be the cheapest fix, and it flows better so it is a small upgrade.

Eagle H-Beam + Wiseco should be good for around 600 Horse. That is the max I would run on the stock block in regards to safety.

Aww the link didn't work. Alright, cool thanks guys! I think I'll just get the 8.3:1 weisco and hang em on the eagle rods and call it good. In regards to the pacesetter headers (which were only 230$ with armor coat) I think I'll go ahead and get them and let everyone know how they are. Well off to the garage to paint engine parts!
