Okay well I want to turbo my 420a and i want to know will i blow my engine or will it be too much boost for my engine. My block has 160,000 miles on it and i did alot of mechanical repairs to it(sensors, head gaskets, timing belts etc.) I probly need to do a compression test on my pistons. What are the numbers so i could able to run boost and i do i need to do anything else. Change anything or do something to run boost?

My goal is at least 220 hp

I would make sure the compression is close to spec and then check out the 420a forums on here. They are a wealth of info.

You want to make sure the engine is in decent repair. Check the compression, as mentioned. Any small issues you have with the motor and drive-train should be corrected prior to installing a turbo kit. You will have to have an upgraded fuel system. A Walbro 255 and FMU is an economical (and bare minimum) way to support boost up to about 8psi.

Here are some quickie threads to peruse through.

Good luck.

This is just a suggestion, but I'd search around a little more on the work it takes to turbo a 420a properly and really understand what you're getting yourself into. Is this your daily driver?

When I bought my talon, I never did any tests on it to see the condition of it. It ran good so that was good enough for me and it is still running good right now. Never had any problems running boost. If this is your DD, you will want to set probably 2-3 days away to make sure you get everything put on there good and make sure it runs ok (no oil leaks, no boost leaks, etc.) Make sure to do A LOT of research before you attempt to BUY or INSTALL any parts whatsoever. You need to understand what each part in a turbo build does to be able to troubleshoot any problems down the road or even a day later after installing.

We are here to help, answer any of your questions and guide you with the install, but please remember to also search these forums. I Also wouldn't set my goal at 220 starting, because you're not sure what condition your motor is in. But it should be pretty close to it. Good Luck.

yea i know its not boom one minute easy install and no problems. I know there is going to be some work and yes its my daily driver. I dont want a whooping 300 hp machine like some guys i just wan a minimum of 200 hp you know.. cause going 140 hp is weak...

i got over 160,000 miles too just make sure its running right, matinence kept up simple things like that. With all the miles you may also wanna start looking for a new motor cant hurt to be prepared.

Yeah I'm with the dude who posted this. thats a good question, exactly what's the compression suppose to be for each cylinder. i thought 150 for a 4g is good. what is it for a 420a?

Anywhere between 170 to 225psi is considered 'good' compression on the 420a.
