Diamond Star Motors (mitsu diamonds/chrysler star)....that i already knew....and i agree, if i wanted a 1g (which is 2nd on my list) then i would have no problem getting a tsi, but like i said 2g is where it is at for me....btw, how much do you think a 4g63t would go for in a junk yard? decent miles, runs, etc.....without the turbo (upgrade anyway) with ecu....ballpark?

Not too sure, maybe 600 - 800?? A JDM with turbo is about $1300. You might be better to find a parts car.
 
the reason i ask is because like i said in a previous post, i have a long time family friend that owns a junk yard and if by chance he ever gets hold of a 4g63t i can tell if he is really givin me a deal....also...is there any certain year to get or are they all the same? ive been reading this 6 and 7 bolt thing but i dont understand..... :confused:
 
first off I bought my 2G talon AWD for 5k with 84k on it just for a price comparison..

All 2g turbos have a 7bolt stock
1g could be 6 or 7 bolt depending on the year.

2g has the crankwalk scare
6 bolt is a little stronger on the inside than the 7 bolt
2g has higher compression
these are just a few general things
 
so in terms of "turbonetics" the 1g would be the better engine due to stronger internals and a lower compression ratio true? what about the insides of the 1g makes it stronger?

I dont believe the 4g63 mounts in the 2g nt the mounts are in different places so if you were going for the 2nd gen you would have to get a gsx or gst body. :laser:

The general consensus is that if you're trying to swap a 4G63 engine in a nonturbo 2G DSM, you might as well bite the bucket and buy the turbo 2G
 
First off I believe what you're saying is you're looking for the 2g eclipse right??? If you want an eclipse 2g and you want the 4g63 it would be a pain in the neck to try to swap that engine into a gs or rs eclipse. You want to get a gsx or gs-t because it comes with the 4g63 and you can easily swap another one in there. If you want to put a 4g63 into a gs or rs you're looking at a boat load of work and then some. THe motor mounts are different the transmission is different etc.....It has been done but only by the experienced and the ones rolling in cash
 
i would love to have a gsx but i am in college and cant afford the car loan and insurance....plus i am having a hard time finding a 2g gsx/gst for a great price....so i want a 2g but may have to settle for a 1g for cost affectiveness.....but let me ask this...the 420a....how reliable is it with boost? i imagine i could get a 420a motor and build it up....but as far as internally, will 4g63t internals work? im just weighing every option i have....
 
There are several turbo kits for the 420a ;) Both Star and Hahn sell them. They're around $3000 for the kit, but there's a bunch of stuff you gotta do before getting them (exhaust, internals, etc.)
 
i know...but see my plan is to 1) buy the 420a motor from my friends junk yard. 2) replace whatever needs to be replaced 3) build the hell out of it so i dont blow myself up 4) buy an eclipse that is either a. without motor b. super high mileage c. junk yard with most of its parts still in tact d. super awsome once in a lifetime deal........so i have the time, i am in no hurry......i have a toyota right now and you have to go to hell and back before it will die, so im not hurting for a car.....this will be my first TRUE from the ground up project car that will probably see nothing but garage time for a year or so.....i just need all the info before i start.....i like my money :thumb: dont wanna waste it though on something i dont need :thumbdown
 
Hmm if you're gonna do that, then you should buy a turbo 2G with a bad/blown engine, then get a 4G63 motor and mod that out ;)
 
and i would...but here in good ol central ohio there is an unneccisarily huge difference in insurence price between the two, and money+full time college+ part time job+girlfriend= not so much of the spending cash, LOL although me working for advance autoparts does help with discounts on things i may need that arent performance related....
 
Oh yeah...forgot about that. It's stupid how insurance goes by the car model and not the engine. If you really want to, I guess you could swap a 4g63 into a 2GNT (non-turbo)
 
i think as of right now i will take advantage of not having a car payment anymore and one insurence payment.....ill just build a motor and buy the car next spring or summer.....1) because i am in no hurry
and 2) beause i am going to need something to keep me busy this winter.....

all that and im poor and cant afford another car right now :cry: but hey, whatya do?


ps....what all do you think is needed to take a 420a to 400whp? will a evo III 16g do it?
keep in mind i know i will need internals and a fuel management system (ill probably do apexi)
but what size injectors? fuel pump? etc etc.....and am i going to need the ecu from the gst or gsx?
 
WOAH 400whp?! That's gonna be a LOT of mods and supporting mods

I dunno about how to get a 420a to that high, some of the other ppl might though

Thanks, in the pic they kind of looked like cheap hub caps! Definatly would not be my first choice of wheels.
 
Um... if you're going to buy a 2nd gen N/T then don't try and do a 4G63 motor swap. Go buy a GS-T or a GSX. Because you're going to spend a lot more money on making everything fit. plus, nothing is in the right spots between the two chassis (GS/RS vs GS-t/GSX) . There is a thread somewhere here where a guy was trying to do it, have motor mounts welded in different places and what not and he ended up chopping off the front to add a GS-T front to his GS. I don't think that the thread still said if the car ever worked or not... OMG

Just look for an already turboed one or, settle for adding a turbo kit. If only I could add that and pass California smog, I would have already been on my way. :cry: Good luck.
 
im not going to swap a 4g63 into a gs....im going to build a 420a and turbo it.....
 
I hate to ruin the post and all but just when you guys were listing models and engines you forgot 2 engines. The 1.8 NT and the 4g64 2.4L engine offered in the 2g SPYDERS! (check it out if you have any doubts.)
