hey hey, i am brand spankin new to the world of dsm....currently from the toyota world.....my question is this....i will be purchasing a 95 gs and was wondering what the major difference between the 4g63 and the 4g63t is? other than the turbo....is the 4g63t stronger internally? i know this motor has been around for ages....so any info will help this poor lost soul....

its only set up a bit different... like it has a different intake cam and different compression ratio... otherwise... they are the exact same engine pretty much... just ones setup for the turbo and ones set up for natural aspiration.
 
just a note if you are getting a 95 you are buying a 420a engine

yes, if your getting a 95, your looking at a whole different ball park with the 420a. everything is different about the motors.
 
Yeah, the 420a engine is the same one used in the Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth Neons. It's still a nice little engine with good gas mileage and reliability. It only puts out 140hp though, so if you're looking for some power you might want to go with the 4g63 Mitsubishi engine with Turbo (on second generation 95 or older DSM's).
 
i thought that the gs was the 4g63....like i said, when it comes to toyota motor im great...this is a different world for me.....correct me if im wrong....the sohc was the 420a and the dohc was the 4g63....at least thats what i thought.....i always thought the only difference was the gs was 4g63 2.0L and the gsx and gst were 4g6et 2.oL help!!!!!!!

and the 4G63 on the 95-99 Eclipse GSX/GS-T and 95-98 Talon TSi is turbocharged
 
ok, bad news, the 95 i was going to buy got sold before i could get to look at it... :cry: he wanted 3970 for a 95 gs with 105k miles......but i am still searching for a dsm playtoy ;) .....anyway...since i am stil new to this dsm stuff....question: if i were to buy a 1g 93 talon tsi and bought the jdm 4g63t....would it fit? without any problem? and, since 9 times out of 10 you will get the best price without the tranny (and since i would build up the motor before droppin it....would the usdm 5spd tranny work? is there any other tranny better? and what are the specs on the jdm 4g63? thanks......really

Under the hoods of any DSM sporting the following trim levels:

Tsi, TSi AWD, GST, GSX

I say forget all that JDM garbage. Maybe the motor is made over there, but the rest of the car was made right here in Normal, Illinois. If you want power, why pay a prmium for some tired old motor from Tokyo, when you can pick up a used 4g63t here at your local jYard and build the shit out of it. If you ask me, JDM is a catch phrase of a dyed in the wool ricer. Do some homework and detemine your ultimate goals. Then you can decide which platform you want/need.

Welcome to the fray. DSMers are not your typical tuners. We have our own little civil war going on (420a vs 4g63), and we are perhaps one of the most likely groups to flame ricers viciously. :thumb: :talon:
 
you do have a point, although finding a 4g63t in a junk yard here in central ohio may be rather difficult....i do have a family friend who owns a rather large junk yard so i will see what he can do for me....what is a typical price for a 4g63t that has decent miles? the reason i brought the whole jdm thing up is because i am use to toyotas where there are huge differences in usdm and jdm...for example the usdm turbo mr2 has 200hp where as the jdm has 240...so i was just assuming the jdm was much better....shame on me...so if anyone could fill me in on the specs and what not of the usdm 4g63t it would do me a world of good....i plan to (since i have no garage) build a 4g63t over the winter and come spring or summer, buy an early 2g eclipse gs(either blown motor or shit load of miles) and drop the built motor in....i will say that im not gunning for 800 hp....but maybe 350...400 would be great but ill say 300-350....any and all info on how to obtain that on a 4g63t will be awsome.....and thanks for not dogin the new guy :thumb:
 
Well, it might be a bit far, but I'm sure you'll find everything you're looking for in Cinncinnati, including the DSM ;)

1000 for that red laser aint bad at all!!!....but i must say that i am in love with the 2g eclipse....always have been just never had the money.....i need a 2g eclipse....sadly i will have the motor and work on it before i have the actual car :cry:

LOL.....it a sense, yes it is the same car, but i just love the curves of the 2g eclipse....i think the only other cars that have curves like that are the supra and rx7.......im a sucker for nice curved figure what ca i say? ;)
 
automatic???? boooooooooo......i drive stick and only stick.....although i like the price....i think in the 1g eclipse/talon i like the talons rear lights better....but still, i want 2g...im picky i know... :D

Research what DSM stands for. The are EXACTLY the same, except for badging! :rolleyes:

Sorry, did not see the Automatic, but just change the tranny!

Lower initial cost = more money for mods!! :thumb: :laser:

Yes it is. The Turbo model has lower compression than the non turbo.
