Hi. I'm new to DSMTuners and to DSM's in general.... Ok.... More like new to imports and compact tuners is more like it (use to V8's and things with less gizmo's on them) but I'm really enjoying this side of the fence so far....

Ok. Here it is......
I just bought a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI. Bone dry stock mechanically... 144,000 kiles on her and set one for me was to go through and fix this rough choppy, rough, missfire she was having.... Check. Gave her a major tune up, checked all the hoses (one that went to blow-off valve was weirly cut right open. Sealed it and took care of 90% of my problems). After all is she started to run like she was a brand new car (seems like a healthy engine. Will see after checking comperastion).

My problem is this......................

A day after the tune-up/inspection and fixing all the little things she starts to do one of the problems she use to give me and that is after you drive her around for awhile and she gets up to normal or even a little below normal operating temps and you turn her off, then comeback a little later while she's still warm she'll start up for a sec and then drop rpms and die in about the first 5 seconds of starting her up. Ive been dealing with this by when she does that by reving her to about 2,000 and leaving her there for a minute and then she's pretty much fine..... Drive her home and let let her get cold, then start her up when she's cold. Starts, idles and drives light a champ! (though have notice a small tickling noise now when you start her up cold but its only for acouple of minutes and never does it again).....

Anyone has any ideas?????

The start up issue when warm I'd check to make sure your coil looks clean, also somthing to look at would be the Idle control valve (sorry brain fart term Im unsure of at the moment) located in the throttle body below the TPS. It could be dirtied up with carbon and slow its reaction time to control your idle. Can take it out clean it up and relube it. While its out can test it. There is a procedue in the maintence manual for it.

First off, welcome to DSMtuners buddy. Second, something to learn about the site is spelling and punctuation. The problem with your car seems like you might have bad TPS. Also, you might want to check and see if your idle screw (located on the top of the throttle body) is not screwed all the way in. I would also check the status of how "good" the wires are on your thermostat sensors. this could cause weird starting problems and you may run rich if you have a bad sensor. The ticking sounds like lifters. it is a very common thing. unless your shooting for alot of power the ticking is only a mere annoying sound. Any others questions?

Awesome.... Thanks for the tips. I'll try them all out in the next day of two and we'll see how it goes.... I'm thinking it's mostlikely the TPS after some more time to think and from picking all of your brains.... Thank you

Youre almost right on the money with the control valve LOL. Its the idle air control valve (IACV). Yours might be the temp sensor being bad. I had the same issue with mine. Just put a multi meter on it and do a resistance test. I think it should be between 2.1 and 2.7 Kohms (cold). If its lower than that its bad for sure.
