newbie lookin for some used car help!!

I've been lookin for a car to auto-x and run at the strip. I found a 1990 turbo laser with 73k. What kinds of things should I look for to tell if it's beat or if it's just too old.

Compression check the engine and the usual signs of wear and tear. Take it for a ride with the radio OFF.

The 73k on that 1990 Laser sounds like a nice find.

1990 turbo laser with 73k? holy shit, very nice find. I had to get an engine swap to get low miles I would be all over that car.

the price tag is $3500 though, does that sound fair? KBB says around $2500

Is it AWD?

If it is and is in good shape, I would grab it. The Laser is the lightest DSM. It is perfect for auto-x and strip time. Go for it.

1990 FWD would usually definetly not be worth that $3,500 price tag, but since the miles are so low you may want to go for it if money isn't super tight. try to talk him down you can probably get him to $3,200. if you go to buy it and show him $3,200 in cash and say thats all you have he will probably go for it.

Starting from zero, there are much better choices for drag and/or auto-x. And especially not FWD.
